An Irish transport company has won a prestigious contract to act as transport for athletes during the upcoming Olympic Games in London.

Matthews Coach Hire, based in Inniskeen, Co. Monaghan, is the only Irish company to have secured the prestigious contract for London 2012.

The coach company currently employs 72 people, with a fleet of 35 vehicles and they offer commuter, tour and corporate services. The company also employs an alcolock device throughout their fleet, which acts as a driver breathalysing system linked to the engine. The new Dublin Leap Card has been trialed on some of its services as well.

“The economic spin-offs of the Olympic Games become apparent when we see an innovative company like Matthews flying the flag for Ireland,” said Minister Varadkar.

“The Government has worked hard to ensure that Ireland enjoys the full benefit from the Olympic Games being staged in the UK. Fifteen countries have already chosen Ireland as a training base in the run-up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It’s great to see Irish companies like Matthews benefiting from the games as well.”
