One lucky fan of classic cop shows has won a dream drive behind the wheel of a 1975 Ford Consul used in iconic TV series The Sweeney.

To mark the Blu-ray debut of the Complete First Series of The Sweeney, home entertainment label Network in cooperation with Rockingham gave the lucky fan a once in a lifetime 'Sweeney Experience' with some flying laps of the Northamptonshire circuit.

In a nostalgia-fuelled day, Simon Gribble, from the West Midlands, drove the 1975 Ford Consul stunt car from the famous TV series at Europe's fastest racing circuit as well as received his own copy of the new Blu-ray box set, a cheque for £1,975 and a genuine bottle of 1975 men's aftershave.

After driving the car, he described the experience: "It was lots of fun to drive the old Ford Consul stunt car round Rockingham, which is a great circuit. It was a nostalgic day and one I'll remember for a long time, the car was fantastic.

"Now I'm looking forward to watching the whole first series of The Sweeney in HD with the family, whilst smelling of my 70's aftershave of course!"

The immensely popular TV series The Sweeney ran from 1975 to 1978, starring John Thaw and Dennis Waterman.

Following the capers of Scotland Yard's Flying Squad, The Sweeney featured Inspector Jack Regan and Detective Sergeant George Carter as they straightened out London's criminal underworld.
