RTÉ Radio 1 programme Countrywide has enlisted the help of Grow it Yourself Ireland and the Sandymount Dublin Group to cultivate Gerry Ryan's former allotment.

Following the untimely death of the presenter three years ago, the garden, which was a regular feature on 2fm's The Gerry Ryan Show was left unattended.

Countrywide, presented by Damien O'Reilly, is also receiving professional advice from The Arboretum in Carlow, from the owner Rachel Doyle and her son Barry. Both gardeners are fully qualified horticulturalists and run one of the country’s best known garden centres.
