Aldi’s budget wine ranks alongside expensive bottles at international awards
Aldi's Toro Loco Tempranillo has been named one of the leading wines in the world at the 2012 International Wine and Spirit Competition. Retailing at just €4.99 per 75cl bottle, Aldi's wine excelled in a blind tasting conducted by a panel of leading independent experts, placing alongside many older wines that cost nearly ten times as much.
Proving that you don’t have to pay a premium price to enjoy excellent quality wine, the panel of experts awarded the Spanish red a silver medal, describing it as “fruity, rounded and appealing” with hints of “nice bright cherry”.
Welcoming the awards win, Niall O’Connor, Aldi’s Group Buying Director said, “We’re committed to bringing our customers the highest quality wines at everyday affordable prices and are delighted that our Toro Loco Tempranillo has been recognised by the International Wine and Spirit Competition. Our buying team works closely with leading wineries across the globe so our customers can enjoy the best wines without paying premium prices.”
Aldi’s range scooped a total of 14 awards at the prestigious 2012 International Wine and Spirit Competition, which recognise the quality and excellence of the world’s best wines, spirits and liqueurs.
