Block colour rules Golden Globes 2014

Block colour was a dominant trend on the red carpet at last night's (January 12) Golden Globes Awards.

Take a look at our gallery of the red carpet looks here.

Emma Watson led the style pack in a daring coral Dior chiffon dress which featured a completely backless design.

The Harry Potter star paired the dress with a pair of cropped black trousers and pointed suede heels.

She finished off the look with a simple sleek up-do and subtle smokey eyemakeup.

American Hustle star Amy Adams channelled the 1970s' vibes of the movie in a burgundy and scarlet two-tone Valentino dress which had a plunging neckline, reminiscent of her character's outfits in the film.

Gravity star Sandra Bullock went for another colour-blocking look in a pink, blue and black satin gown by Prabal Gurung. The asymmetrical hemline revealed peep toe pumps which finished off the look.

Singer Taylor Swift walked the red carpet in a strapless black and fuschia Carolina Herrera gown that had a distinctly 1980s' prom feel.

Helen Mirren looked divine in a jade green Jenny Packham embellished gown and emerald earrings.

Actress Olivia Wilde also went for a sparkly green number, this time in a slinky forest green dress by Gucci which showed off her baby bump to perfection.

Reese Witherspoon went for a minimal look in a figure-hugging Calvin Klein gown which complimented her razor-sharp bob.

The monochrome trend was also a popular theme at the awards, with Jennifer Lawrence encapsulating the look in a white and black strapless Dior gown.

Jessica Chastain, as ever, was a picture of understated elegance in a simple black strapless Givenchy gown. The Zero Dark Thirty star completed the flawless look with a layered necklace and tumbling wavy hair.

Wolf of Wall Street actress Margot Robbie went for a more modern look in a plunging Gucci gown with a thigh-high slit embellished with jewels on the shoulders and waist.

New Girl star Zooey Deschanel went for a similarly-hued off-white Oscar de la Renta number which featured a tulle skirt and crop top.

Golden Globes hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler looked distinctive in a strapless floral Carolina Herrera gown and slinky black cut-out Stella McCartney dress respectively.
