Donatella Versace has expressed her gratitude to Lady Gaga for writing a song about her on her new album.
The song, simply titled Donatella features on Gaga’s new album Artpop with the singer describing the song as her “love letter” to the 58-year-old fashion veteran.
Speaking about the song in an email to website Just Jared, Versace said: “Dear Jared, How incredible to see the news of Lady Gaga‘s Donatella song on Just Jared”
She added: “I would like to thank Gaga for her geniality, creativity, incredible talent and super bitchiness. I am honoured to be her friend and of course I love the song! Love, DV.”
Lady Gaga and Donatella Versace have become close over the years with the 27-year-old singer being invited to a private dinner at the Palazzo Versace in Milan last year. The luxury fashion house also designed outfits for Gaga’s last tour.
In an explanation of the song to Just Jared the Poker Face singer said: “It’s about being a fearless female and not caring what people say about you – being proud of who you are and walking the walk no matter what.”
She added: “Donatella, maybe she’s a bitch, maybe she’s too skinny, maybe she’s too rich, maybe she’s too out there. Or, maybe she’s brilliant, maybe she’s intelligent, maybe she’s strong, maybe she’s everything, maybe she’s Donatella.”
Lady Gaga is not the first artist this year to pen an ode to their favourite designer. Recently, Jay-Z included a song called ‘Tom Ford’ on his album Magna Carta Holy Grail as a tribute to his favorite designer.
When asked if her song was similar to Jay Z’s Gaga said: “No, it’s not so much about Donatella as a brand as it is Donatella the person, about me as a person, that idea of what the public wants from you.”
