Chanel impress with haute couture show

Chanel's spring 2013 haute couture show was all sweetness and light, with a beautiful array of gowns and the label's signature boucle wool suits.

Models walked the runway at the Grand Palais in Paris, which had been transformed into an enchanted forest, in a selection of ethereal couture creations.

Karl Lagerfeld's inspiration for the collection was a "romantic neo-classical thing, a Greek theatre in a romantic forest", the Chanel head designer explained, which transpired into a dreamlike and mythical show.

Dresses came in a selection of frothy pastels, dynamic floral prints and the brand's signature monochrome.

Femininity was the order of the day, with many silhouettes harking back to the glamourous 1930s.

The frocks were complimented with dramatic floral headpieces and decidedly edgy black feather-painted eyemakeup, which lent the whole look a slightly gothic tinge.

Matching thigh-high peep toe boots in a variety of coloured lace and silver leather finished off the looks to perfection.
