Kate Winslet looked all class and style as she attended a ceremony in Buckingham Palace this week to collect her CBE.

The 37 year-old actress, originally from Reading, wore a custom-made, black Alexander McQueen skirt suit with an intricate headpiece and black court shoes.

The headpiece, designed by milliner Natalie Ellner from Cornwall, is inspired by the McQueen suit and is adorned with magpie feathers, providing subtle drama.

Ellner spoke to Fashion Telegraph about the piece, saying "It's taken about a month to create, going backwards and forwards with Kate. She had a lot of input, it had to reflect her personality".

"It's such an important, once-in-a-lifetime occasion, it's nice to have a statement piece… this is what evolved", Ellner added. The two have collaborated previously, as Winslet ordered custom creations for a private event earlier this year.

Other stars who managed to get their hands on one of the honours from Queen Elizabeth II included Irish golfer Darren Clarke and singer Gary Barlow.

Eve Lom, the cosmetics queen who fled the former Czechoslovakia in the Sixties and rose through the ranks building her skincare empire in Paris and London, also received a CBE this week.

Designer and creative director of Mulberry, Emma Hill, also received her CBE this week. Since 2007 she has transformed the British brand, most notable for their luxurious handbags.
