Ten Top Foundation Picks for Spring

It may be January and colder than ever, but now's the time to start thinking about updating your look for spring. Here are ten top foundations to get you started.

I always tend to choose heavier, higher coverage foundations around winter-time, to cover up any imperfections and give skin a perfected look.

However, with the New Year comes new resolutions, and I've been trying to wean myself off full coverage foundations and opt for something a bit lighter, that will let skin breath, perfect for welcoming in the balmier spring months.

All of the choices below are a doddle to apply, I usually eschew foundation brushes in favour of applying with my fingers, especially in the morning rush.

Benefit Hello Flawless, €35

This lovely foundation offers light-to-medium, buildable coverage, which has a gorgeous, dewy finish. It comes in nine shades, I use the palest (Believe in me Ivory) which suits my skintone perfectly. I add some powder in the T-zone to avoid shininess.

Max Factor Xperience Weightless Foundation, €19.99

This may be one of the cheapest choices on the list, coming in at under twenty quid, but that is no reflection on the quality of this product. This gorgeous skin perfector offers weightless coverage with a really natural finish. It comes in just six shades unfortunately, but if you find one to suit your skin, you're sure to be an instant convert.

YSL Touche Eclat, €38

YSL's Touche Eclat foundation ticks all the right boxes - it has a light, fluid texture, sinks effortlessly into skin and leaves a 'my skin but better finish'. It doesn't cake or settle into fine lines and lasts really well throughout the day. There's a fantastic selection of shades on offer, 22, to make shade matching easy-peasy.

Tom Ford Traceless Foundation, €72

This is the most expensive foundation on the list, and a real luxury buy, but this is a winner for fans of natural, light coverage who love to indulge in beauty products. The foundation is housed in a beautiful glass bottle, and one to one-and-a-half pumps is usually enough to cover a full face. This has a really dewy finish, so would not be suited for matte-fans, and gives skin a lit-from-within glow.

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream, €33

This is not technically a foundation, but Smashbox's Camera Ready BB Cream lends skin a beautifully flawless finish, so I had to include it. The BB cream comes in four shades, I've been using Fair which is a good match for my skin. It offers a whole host of beauty benefits, including hydration, skin priming and great sun protection in the form of SPF35.

Giorgio Armani Face Fabric, Second Skin Nude Makeup, €40.66

Armani's Face Fabric is a good choice for oilier skintypes, this is a silky-textured product that glides over skin and gives a semi-matte finish. It is a silicone based product, so I found that no primer was needed as it doesn't settle into lines or pores. A nice lightweight option for those looking to keep shininess at bay.

MAC Studio Moisture Tint SPF 15

MAC's Studio Moisture Tint is a creamy tinted moisturiser which offers sheer coverage and a comfortable, soft finish. It gives a polished look to skin and doesn't get greasy or shiny throughout the day.

Origins Plantscription Anti-aging foundation SPF 15, €36

The gorgeous Origins Planscription Anti-aging foundation may have a lightweight texture, but the coverage is very good and buildable, and lasts really well throughout the day on my normal/combination skin. Great for those with ageing concerns (that's nearly all of us then?!).

IsaDora 16 Hrs Active Moist Make-Up SPF 30, €19.95

This is the second cheapest option in our top ten, and this is another wonderful pharmacy buy. It is formulated with a host of skin-loving ingredients including anti-oxidant pomegranate, sweet almond oil and glycoprotein to care for skin while providing smooth medium coverage. It's really easy to apply and blend and lasts really well throughout the day. Love!

Revlon Photoready Airbrush Mousse Makeup, €19.40

This mousse foundation melts into a soft fluid once you blend into your skin, and blends to a really natural finish. I would describe the coverage as light-to-medium so I mostly turn to this for daytime. It gives skin a sheer but even finish, and adds some much-needed radiance.
