Let your hair down - with hair extensions

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair - and that's exactly what RTÉ's Laura Delaney did on her recent trip to Hotlox Hair on Dame Street.

It started off with spray tans, false eyelashes, HD brows and Shellac nails - and now extensions are very rapidly making their way into the daily regime of Irish beauty goddesses.

From the outset the thoughts of attaching layers of someone else’s hair to your head seems pretty crazy (especially to men), but with A-listers like Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Nicole Scherzinger, Victoria Beckham, Jessica Biel, Blake Lively, Megan Fox and Cheryl Cole (the list is endless) flaunting their luscious locks on the red carpet (which are all extensions by the way), I think it’s safe to say it’s justified.

I recently got into the habit of wearing clip-in extensions on special occasions which quickly transpired into every night out! While they looked good for photos, the back of my hair was one backcombed mess and the colour match wasn’t completely perfect (bearing in mind they cost under €50). However, I began to see some potential in how amazing my hair could look.

I knew that if I was serious about adding some va-va-voom to my extremely thin hair, I would have to consult an expert. After trawling through the internet and doing some serious research, one name kept on being mentioned – Enter Anna Johnson the extension extraordinaire.

After the raving reviews, I made an appointment to see Anna – and boy-oh-boy was it the best decision I've made. From the get-go she just got me. She understood that I wanted extensions to add a bit of volume and not necessarily to make my hair longer. At the back of my mind I had concerns that I may look like I’d just stepped out of Geordie Shore or The Only Way is Essex, but Anna guaranteed me that my new locks would look natural and healthy –and that they did.

Anna thoroughly inspected my hair and took the time to examine the different tones and shades running through my hair, and then matched the extensions perfectly to my own highlighted colour (you can’t tell the difference at all). I opted to go for bonded real human hair as I felt it would be easier to maintain and I would get longer out of them (they can last for 4 months if treated right).
My other concern was that my hair may look square or shapeless after the procedure, but Anna was sure to cut beautiful layers throughout my hair which defined and enhanced my new style.

From the second I walked out of the salon I felt like a million dollars. For once the slightest bit of wind didn’t mess my hair up and make it look like I needed a good brush. The additional weight is a god send and really gives the impression that I’ve just stepped out of a blow-dry bar.

In just 90 minutes I went from having limp and difficult- to manage hair, to volumised and bouncy locks. I was previously told that once I got extensions, I would be addicted and couldn’t live without them. The thoughts of not having them in now are not even an option!

Feel extra special for the festive party season and treat yourself to a hair experience like no other at Hotlox hair.
