Bloggers at London Fashion Week
Bree from: RTE Fashion Blog
This year bloggers are being given a potentially lucrative seat at London Fashion Week, they could be gracing the front row.
Once reserved for the cream of the crop of fashion journalism, buyers and investors, the front row has exchanged hands in the past few years. From celebrities like Nicki Minaj sitting next to bonafide ‘it’ girls and fashionistas like Alexa Chung and Amber Le Bon, now you needn’t even be a fully-blown celebrity to see all the flaws up close and personal.
Bloggers, who are unknown to the public eye but have often cult following behind the monitor, are being given ‘press’ tickets which is outraging the fashion journalism. The tides seem to be turning for Anna Wintour, Katie Grand, Alexandra Shulman, Hamish Bowles et al. The blogosphere are now the real honest voice of fashion.
From Katie Grand’s personal relationship with friend and collaborator Marc Jacobs, to Anna Wintour personally mentoring and tipping Thakoon for fashion stardom, the subjectivity clause creeps up yet again. Like any other form of media, there is always the pitfall of writer bias. ‘Who bought ten full-page ads last season? Give them a good review so they keep advertising’
Bloggers like Tavi, The Sartorialist and Bryan Boy have garnered serious attention for their blogsThe fashion elite despise them, yet their blog followers adore and watch their every move as the real people reclaim the right to discuss fashion on an international platform.
