Speaking to Vogue, Upton explained that she is proud to be a positive icon in the fashion world, and has no plans to lose weight despite criticism she has received claiming that she is "too heavy".
She said: "I am excited to be in a place where I can be a good example," she said. "I think it's important to look at magazines and think a healthy lifestyle is attainable.
"Now that the fashion industry likes the idea of me, I'm happy if I can have an influence."
The 20-year-old model also spoke about leading a normal life, adding: "I still want to hang out with my family and be a normal girl. You have to be confident, and that doesn't mean starving yourself."
Meanwhile, Upton's personal trainer David Kirsch praised her commitment, revealing: "I have trained a lot of models and celebrities, and let me tell you she is so determined and willing to do whatever it takes. She's incredibly smart and driven."
