Offaly Take Title in Dramatic Finish
In one of the most dramatic finishes ever to an All-Ireland Final, this match, more than any, showed that a game is not over until the final whistle. With only five minutes to go Limerick, who had dominated the game, led Offaly by five points. A Johnny Dooley goal from a 21 yard free was the turning point. Offaly were only two points behind and then within a minute, substitute Pat O'Connor scored another goal to give Offaly the lead. Bill Dooley added another three points before the end of the game. The Dooley brothers Johnny, Joe and Billy between them scored 2-11 of the Offaly total.
