RTÉ schedules on both radio and television for the week of the commemoration were dominated by two major elements: live coverage of the 1966 ceremonies and programming that sought to recreate or reflect on the events of 1916.
Overall, RTÉ broadcast more than fifty-three hours of material devoted to the Rising and its commemoration that week.
All the commemorative events were televised. Three extra Outside Broadcasting Units were hired by RTÉ for the occasion.
More than thirty-one hours of radio were broadcast, including reminiscences by veteran survivors, historical plays and specially commissioned music programmes. All of the official commemorative ceremonies were broadcast live on Radio Éireann.
