RTÉ Stills Library digitisation project was initiated in 1996 to archive the original images held by RTÉ Stills Library and to provide for easier browsing and retrieval. To date over 100,000 images have been digitised through this project. RTÉ Stills Library digital images are stored in either JPEG or TIFF formats. Over 70,000 of these digitised images have been catalogued so far. These are available to search, view and order on RTÉ's Online Photographic Archive.The digitisation and cataloguing of RTÉ Stills Library collections is an ongoing process.
Viewers of RTÉ Television see material from RTÉ Stills Library used in a wide range of programmes. RTÉ Factual documentary series including 'Reeling in the Years', 'Léargas' and 'Arts Lives ' all make use of images held by RTÉ Stills Library. RTÉ Stills Library images are also regularly used by 'The Late Late Show' and 'Prime Time'. Material from RTÉ Stills Library is widely used by the newspaper and publishing industries.
'Off Camera: Images from the early years of RTÉ Television', is published by Poolbeg and RTÉ. This book contains almost 100 black-and-white images from RTÉ Stills Library's collections, covering the period from the early sixties to the mid-seventies. |
