The primary function of RTÉ Libraries and Archives is the acquisition, preservation, conservation and making accessible of the RTÉ Libraries and Archives collections (consisting of radio and television programmes, still images, production files, scripts, music scores and manuscripts) for use in the Irish Public Service Broadcasting and for the benefit of future generations.

This function is carried out by the staff of RTÉ Libraries and Archives who collect, store and carefully document these records of our past and present.

The television and radio programmes broadcast by RTÉ today are the archives of tomorrow.
