This is a witch hunt against the veteran flanker by the media. Why did Sky Sports have to show the incident over and over again, making it look worse than it really was?
If it looked bad I am sure there was nothing in it. He is a tough player. It is the one thing he hasn't got in his record book. The Leinster man hasn't made anything of it to his credit.
At his age he'll never get a chance to play a Lions Test match again.
I think it's a terrible shame for poor Alan Quin... Oh, this is Burger we're talking about is it? Bloody disgrace - ban him for life.

If Alan Quinlan missed the tour and got a 12 week ban for what he did then i hate to think what will happen to burger . H e should have been red carded .All we ask for is consistancy and i think the lions were so unlucky to lose both games as nothing has gone their way so far.i am so proud of the lions and hopefully i will be with them in 4 years time.
how the 4th match offical cannot reliase what has happened , he should have penalised bur

The referee and touch judge should be ashamed of themselves, alan quinlan got 12 weeks for relatively nothing. Burger should NEVER be allowed handle a ball again.

I think it was disgraceful, the springbok should be given the same ban Alan Quinlan got handed down to him. Whats worse is that the referee only gave the player a yellow card, i am a referee and would have given a straight red card, also the referee didnt see the incident. The refereeing in this years series has been a complete joke and the IRB should look at it and review their referees.

Disgrace. Burger should have walked permanently. No place for it.
A straight Red Card. If Alan Quinlan can miss the whole tour for an accidental contact in and around the eye area Burger should get a 12 month Ban. Rugby is a hard game played hard but fairly there is no place for this in the game.

Plain as day, same as Alan Quinlan's incident with Leo Cullen. Powers that be have to hit harder on this kind of thing and consider longer sentences. Horrible to see this in rugby.

If quinney got 12 weeks for mistakenly coming in contact with Cullens eye area well this coward Burger should get a full year ban and I really mean that ,one year ban to send the message out there that there is NO PLACE WHATSOEVER for this cowardly act.And I am damn sure that if it were a lion player doing it to a Bok player that Peter D Viliers(another coward for his comments about his own player) would be singing a totally different tune. From supporting them in the last world cup ,the South African team and management as good people have gone way down in my eyes.

De Villiers has brought great shame on South African rugby with his comments about Burger's gouging. I very much doubt whether most S.A. players consider it ok or think that everyone that doesn't like being gouged should wear a tutu.

O'Driscoll comments are awfull and wreak of sour grapes ,we should cast a look back at some of the acts carried out by irish [players over the years before we jump down the throat of others

I think BOD made a fair point. Burger made the game look like its played by a bunch of thugs. People saying things like De Villiers did does nothing to help interest levels in the game. Burger could have ruined Fitzgerald's eye and his career at 21 years of age, which he nearly did and clearly intended to do. I think 8 weeks is a disgrace, he should be gone for a year and that nutcase De Villiers fined severely for his ludicrous comments. The whole incident has tarnished rugby's reputation as a well refereed sport
