Brian Cowen is expected to carry out his first cabinet reshuffle within the next three weeks and maybe as early as this week. It may be his last chance to win over the public and convince people that this Government can lead us out of the economic crisis. But is it already too late?

With its satisfaction rating at record lows, have people already made up their minds about this Government? Or, like Labour in the UK, is there a chance that people will keep an open mind and may decide to stick with what they know as the election draws neare?

Can the Taoiseach produce a line-up that, in time, will convince people that he does offer real leadership and that his Government does have the ideas and the talent to solve the problem of job creation? That's our topic tonight, Pat Kenny will be joined by Government and opposition, by Ger Colleran - editor of the Star newspaper and vocal critic of the Government - and by Paddy Duffy, a former advisor to Bertie Ahern and Government supporter. In the audience will be the usual lively and engaged mix of people with strong views on both sides.

If Brian Cowen was to go to Fossett's Circus to recruit his new team, it'd be a definite improvement on the lot he has in place at the moment.

Topic proposal is an oxymoron Pat? Real leadership? The ghosts of that rigid document composed in 1937 looms over the island still. This proposal goes from singular to plural, i.e. thé actions of one individual can ultimately achieve a goal of many individuals (having already a failed-track record). And the goal? "Convincing" the people; not gaining the trust of the people; or indeed, saving the country? This is so far beyond the 'ultimate possibility' (or even discussing same) of just one person, or a small group of satellite-individuals in orbit around one massive black-hole of power long corrupted and already shown to be in such classics as the resurgence of an ever-more confident and risqué breed of the 'Anglo Irish' in property, absentee-landlordism [property in London], banking, trade and finance occupying that island of Ireland.

Hi Pat, I am sitting here shouting at the television set.Reshuffling the cabinet. will be akin to moving deckchairs on the Titanic. The people of Ireland deserve the opportunity to give a clear mandate to a government faced with unprecedented challenges. If Brian Cowen is a true patriot he will take the opportunity on our National Day, Saint Patrick's Day, to announce a general election now. People should wear a badge with a shamrock, and the words "General Election Now please" on Saint Patrick's Day, if they want a change.
