Style Trial: Leighton Meester

I usually like Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester’s style of dressing. She has quite a feminine, pretty look but experiments with edgier, high fashion clothes from time to time.

This, however, is an example of experimentation taken a step too far.

Meester donned this ‘eclectic’ ensemble for an appearance at a New York shop opening. She was performing her new single ‘Somebody to Love’ so perhaps she feels she needs to reinvent herself for the pop world.

I don’t think this is doing her any favours though. The colourful leggings are just hideous, while the waistcoat, bandeau bra and thick belt do nothing to bring the outfit together. No amount of fierce footwear could save the outfit, even those gold studded boots!

Her hair is much too pristine for this look, and all in all it just falls flat.
