The thrills and spills behind the scenes of show six and seven

Over the last few weeks it has been full on for the wardrobe department! Not only have tensions have been sky high but the pressure has been on making sure the contestants look their best in outfits suitable for their songs as well flexible enough if they need to dance!

I nearly had a mild heart attack during the 6th show weekend. While watching the rehearsals on Saturday and making sure everything looked TV ready on the stage I was told by the crew that there was an emergency in the wardrobe department. Someone had spilled something on a tuxedo! Clementine and I ran upstairs to investigate the situation and a sheepish looking Conleth had a bottle of Tipex on his lap with what looked like white gluey spillage! I was about launch into an angry rant when they all burst into laughter. It was a fake Tipex bottle! While writing this my heart starts palpitating again! Luckily he didn’t have to sing in his boxer shorts that day ha-ha!

My favourite outfit was Jessica’s. This was a tricky one because of her intricate dance routine on the bars! I loved her cute fitted military style waist coat from Jane Norman and black high waist shorts from Oasis. Sarah looked radiant in her long green gown with sequin detail from Richard Alan and Roisin’s gorgeous red Cheryl Cole style dress came from Lara.

Show 7 was a very tense weekend. We all knew at that point that two contestants would be voted off and that the judges could not save anyone! There were last minute changes to tend to so I had to nip out on Saturday afternoon to get change of costumes and looks. Roisin was wearing a stunningly beautiful royal blue tunic style dress by Fran & Jane! Sarah was in a gorgeous Halston like purple little dress from Julien and Jessica was in a black mermaid style fitted dress graciously showing off her beautiful figure! Her big sparkly neckpiece comes from Gemini which finished off the overall look elegantly! Ben loved his rock look and in particular his leather jacket that came from Zara and his cool biker boots from Korkys.

Erica graced the stage elegantly, as always, in a purple three quarter sleeved fitted dress with a bejeweled waist detail! Her chandelier style earrings come from Gemini.

During the result show there was lots of tears when Mickey Joe and Roisin were voted off. The eliminations have been getting tougher and tougher. I hope the final show is going to be a happy occasion! Bring on the wrap party yeah!

Fame Fashion Week 4!

Week 4 and this time we hit the the classics! I wanted to reflect that in the wardrobe department but with a modern twist. I loved Michael’s short tailed tuxedo which had a slight miliarty vibe to it! The dancers in the back were wearing great customised suspender style tights (by the Mohlich team of course…) making them very sleek and Madonna-esque looking.

This week thankfully there were no zip dramas or spilt water on suit jackets. Roisin’s floral ruffled dress came from Julien along with the corset style waistband. We added some tulle to make it more dramatic looking.

Caoimhe’s dress came from Miss Selfridge, it was a gorgeous cute little dress with bow detail complementing the dresses of the dancers.
Jessica’s dress was really cute, and I felt it went well with her song. Sarah also looked stunning in her long nude coloured ruffled bustier dress from Karen Millen, teamed up with chandelier style earrings from Gemini. Hollie’s one-off-shoulder dress came from Warehouse.

I have to say, this weeks colour for the judges looked amazing on camera… I went for aqua blue! Erica just shone on the TV with an amazing dress that we picked up during out shopping spree last week. It was from Richard Allen and had a bejewelled collar detail that was part of the dress. To glam it up even more, I sourced matching chandelier style earrings and a chunky bracelet from Gemini.

Next week the show is big band week and I can’t wait to get started on it! I have some great outfits lined up so watch this space!

Fame goes pop!

Hi there Fame fans!

Another week in and this time we had a pop theme for the songs so I could be a little bit more funky and edgier than for the last 2 shows. The bank holiday weekend caused havoc for all of us… I had 2 days less to prep for the wardrobe and there was going to be 10 contestants instead of 6!

All of the outfits worked well together on stage and even Robert liked them for a change! Although I was wondering did the female dancers costumes help… the basques and fishnets probably distracted him. There was definitely more male crew attending the full dress rehearsals this week...

As usual things didn’t run to plan, during the live show, I nearly had a heart attack. When Ben was due to be mic’ed up to go on for his number he decided to have a glass of water to clear his throat, and of course – Murphy’s Law – someone bumped into him! With a little quick thinking we ended up using our wonderful hair stylist Carol Ann’s hair dryer and the stains were gone 5 seconds before he went on stage.

Holly’s look was amazing with her frilled and floral dress from A/Wear, her edgy hair style and make up totally complemented her look for Never Forget You.

Sarah’s long length purple dress with bejewelled detail is from Debenhams and is by Julien Macdonald.

Jessica’s favourite colour is green and she instantly fell in love with her gorgeous dress from Chica.

Caoimhe’s pink cutie was selected from Miss Selfirdge at Cleary’s, during the rehearsals we had a burst zip drama! Luckily I found a wonderful lady who could alter it for me within minutes.

Jumpsuits are huge this season and because Roisin had to do some dancing this week I put her in a black jumpsuit from Karen Millen which I glammed up with beaded bracelets from Penny’s.

The boys looked equally cool with their mix of tshirts, waistcoats, shits and suit jacks.

The star of the show in terms of the fashion stakes was Erica who wore an absolute show stopped of a dress. It was a red contour style number from Richard Alan teamed up with chandelier style Gemini earings.

The worst part of it all is the packing up after the show is finished. We were all very sad after Stuart was voted off. He was so liked by us all....this is going to get harder and harder each week when someone is leaving!

Fashion look back for our Live Show 2

Week 2 and the wardrobe department was less hectic than the previous week so I’m very optimistic that it can only get better… (Famous last words…)

During the week Eirca and myself went on a shopping expedition and picked up two beautiful dresses that I think I’ll be putting her in for show 4 & 5. One of them is a gorgeous aqua blue, but it needs a little altering as its too long. I don’t want Erica doing a Naomi and falling off the stage during her intro. My plan is to completely glam up Erica’s look over the coming weeks with stunning dresses and accessories.

This week I had Simon in a light blue jacket and shirt from M&S and a small blue handkerchief in the pocket which finished off his look. Sunday also saw Mr C Kelly declare his disgust for yet ANOTHER outfit. Completely unfounded though, he should stick with judging the singing and dancing rather than trying to be the next Anna Wintour. In case you were wondering, Philomena’s look was intended to have a strong ‘innerwear’ is ‘outerwear’ look, I matched a fitted lace bustier with a nude plumage skirt.

I loved putting together Caoimhe’s look. It was fun and cheeky, and having the gorgeous male dancers was a huge bonus! She was wearing cute denim shorts with patchwork detail and a check shirt. Unfortunately after the comments she was a bit upset, so there was a lot of hugs in the green room to keep up her spirits.

Hollie went out on stage in a stunning coral strap dress with rara style detail.

For the boys there was not as much variety, but I loved Michael’s turquoise blue fitter shirt and Conleth’s sparkly grey tie was a find as well. Sean looked very smart and confident in his slim fitted suit from TopMan.

So, two weeks down and no diva moments as yet. I feel there might be some moments coming up but I won’t allow them in my wardrobe department! Watch this space…

Week One

Week one down and despite being our very first live show, my wardrobe area was a very calm heaven! I brought my iPod along which played nice lounge music all day, so when emotions and adrenaline rushes went sky high, the finalists just popped into Sonja’s chill out zone to calm the nerves!

This week the highlight for everyone was the arrival of Erica! She was like a dream model for me, having the perfect size and height. I was a huge fan of the original Fame series and I can assure you ‘Coco’ hasn’t changed a bit. Her favourite colour is purple, which was great because I had a long sleek purple Richard Alan dress that fitted her like a dream. I accessorized it with pearls because she likes understated jewellery.
Obviously it being show one, expectations were high, and of course we didn’t want to do a ‘Whitney’ and have any wardrobe malfunctions. So I spent last week shopping. Picking the wardrobe for the contestants is not just about fashion though. I have to keep in mind what songs they are singing while still keeping them current. I don’t want to send them out looking like Mary Poppins.
When one of the contestants dropped out, and Roisin got the hot spot, I wanted to make her look very glamorous and so I opted for a purpose dress with bejewelled detail in a halter neck style, and it did the trick!
Jessica was singing ‘I Can Hear The Bells’ and her little coral coloured tutu style stress was from Julien. I loved it! However, Robert thought differently and I couldn’t believe Jessica agreed with him. I blame her nerves but in the green room backstage everyone let out a big ‘OHHHHH’. Watch this space for Robert’s outfit next week! Revenge will be sweet…
