The X Factor - The One That Got Away...

Was this man robbed?!There's always plenty to talk about where The X Factor is concerned but not since Laura White's elimination has there been this big of a deal to chat about on a Monday morning. I was so gutted for this man last night that I found it hard to watch the rest of the show and be happy for the other contestants who were going through to the live shows. In my opinion, Daniel Pearce was robbed!

What was Simon thinking?
Simon seems happy with his decision but are we?!Anyone who knows me will know that I'm a huge Simon Cowell fan. The man could do no wrong as far as I was concerned… until last night's show. I was heartbroken when Simon decided to send the former boyband star packing with a weak excuse about wanting to give people a first chance, rather than a second chance. Problem is Simon, the public love to give people a second chance. We love to see someone overcoming the odds, being brave enough to put himself out there for judgement a second time round and… coming out victorious. Without the last part of the story we're left cheated, as we were last night.

The X FactorSimon must have had his reasons for sending Daniel home (maybe he didn't see him winning the show, maybe he couldn't imagine him as a commercial success) but, I have to say, this time I think Simon got it wrong (it pains me to say it because I think that, even when he's mean, he usually calls it right). And if it's about the winning then Simon may well have thrown away one of his best chances (and lost a few fans - I was watching with my friend last night and when Daniel was eliminated she just said: "That's it, I'm not watching X Factor anymore"… I felt strongly too but my addiction won't let me stop watching it!).

The Overs and Simon
Is this the man to beat now?Apart from that, in the boys category I had been keeping my fingers crossed for Jamie 'Afro' Archer and was thrilled that Simon decided to put him through. He's a crowd-pleaser… he even had Simon singing along at the audition stages and that doesn't happen very often. I was also chuffed for Olly. He's different. He's fun and I think people will really get behind his brand of entertainment. As for Danyl, well I suppose it's clear at this stage which Daniel I was hoping would go through. I was a little surprised to see Danyl Johnson make the grade after Simon giving out about him being too confident but I suppose after saying that he gave the best first audition that he had ever seen on the show then Simon felt like he had to follow through on that and give him a shot at the live shows. And whatever you feel about his confidence levels, you have to concede that he can sing.

The Girls and Dannii
Kylie and Dannii had some tough choices to make.Aw, how much do we love Stacey Solomon? She is going to be the character of this year's series. I love that she doesn't know how good she is, that she second-guesses all of her statements and that she says exactly what she's thinking, even if it's not the most proper answer. She's just real and I think people will like that. I was also thrilled for Lucie Jones. I've loved her voice from the beginning and I think that she could be a real star for Dannii this year. And you couldn't fault the inclusion of Rachel Adedeji either. It took me a little while to warm to her because she seemed all about the theatrics the first few weeks but I think she'll work really hard to come up with something new every week.

The Boys and Cheryl
Cheryl made some good choices again this year.Yet again, good, good choices by Cheryl. Those are exactly the three I would have picked in that category (not that I'm expert or anything, but they seemed to be the ones who had most potential to become popstars). Cheryl did have tough choices to make though. All of those boys were great performers and brought something different to the competition, but in the end you have to go with the ones that you see doing well in the show I suppose. I did feel for both Cheryl and Daniel when she had that moment of doubt. Fair play to her for stopping and taking a minute to be sure.

Rikki - A star in the making?I think Rikki will be massively popular with the right songs, styling and choreography… basically, if he's allowed to keep doing what he's doing. He's got a natural coolness about him that you can't fake with fancy moves and swanky threads. I was also praying that lovely Lloyd would get through. You could see definite potential in him from the beginning. He just needs someone to guide him along and I think Cheryl will be brilliant at that. As for Joe, well, how could you not like him? He's sweet and unassuming and then just blows you away with this huge voice. He'll be great in the live environment if he can keep his nerves in check.

The Groups and Louis
John and Edward - Through to Louis' final three.I think Louis may have the most difficult job of all the judges this year. I know he seems to like working with groups but he's going to have his work cut out getting the audience to support them I think. With John and Edward, I think Louis felt like he should be patriotic and give them a shot. But like he so often says himself, I don't think they're ready for the fame game yet. Or more to the point, they are too much about the fame game to give the music game a fair run this time. Their Britney and Christina comments seemed to prove that they are very keen for a slice of celebrity action, but I suppose they are only teenagers so we'll let that go and wait to see what they can do to prove their critics wrong next week.

Ronan and Louis seemed to agree on the best groups.Next to Kandy Rain and unfortunately I think Louis might have been right when he turned to Ronan Keating and said that he didn't think that girls would vote for them, and that could be a problem if they want to survive the first few tough weeks and get to have a shot at proving themselves in a few genres. As for Miss Frank, well I think Louis might be on to a winner here. They're cool, funky and give off a great energy when they're performing. I just hope that Louis can choose the right songs for them now.

"fair play to cheryl for stopping and taking a minute" - she is a disgrace that was so planned ... they need some drama so obviously cheryl stepped up ... you seem to be forgetting these are real people that poor guy had to go through that and then be told no .... awh she is a disgrace

I think Simon has the winner this year..Over 25s are so much better this year than last year..Can you imagine Daniel from last year making it thru if he had to compete aginst Jamie Afro, Danyl, Ollie, Daniel Pearce???I think this could be the best year yet! Will be glued to my seat next Saturday!

Posted by Jenny on October 05, 2009 at 02:30 PM BST #

Was raging Danyl got through. I agree with Linda Daniel should have got through instead. Danyl is over-rated, cocky and tries way too hard. Other than that though the judges picked the right acts. On the upside.....possibility for Irish voting?

Posted by Aaron on October 05, 2009 at 02:35 PM BST #

Really upset about Daniel Pearce - genuinely thought he would win it. So talented!

Posted by Dee on October 05, 2009 at 02:37 PM BST #

I am a huge cheryl fan but I was appalled at her behaviour - very unprofessional. Sick for Daniel, he really deserved a chance. danyl went thru on looks alone - have to admit I fancy him myself but he is not a winner

Posted by susan on October 05, 2009 at 04:10 PM BST #

I can't believe Simon put Jamie through over Daniel. Daniel was the best singer in that group and Jamie is so overrated. It's just his look that's getting him through. And John and Edward just make me want to punch the telly! How could Louis put them through!

Posted by Ciara on October 05, 2009 at 04:12 PM BST #

I am also gutted that Daniel Pearce didn't get through, was the toughest choice ever for Simon though. Thought Danni did a great job - I LOVE Stacey and she has an amazing voice. Poor Louis did his best with a bad lot, think Miss Frank could be amazing but the others will be gone early on I'd say. Can't wait for Saturday

Posted by s on October 05, 2009 at 04:27 PM BST #

Over 25's should have been Olly, Jamie Afro, and definitely Daniel Pearce. That ball of smarmyness aka Danyl Johnson did not deserve a place in the final 12, far too cocky for people to enjoy his talent

Posted by Amy on October 05, 2009 at 04:36 PM BST #

I think Simon has made a mistake with his choices and I'm not too keen on Cheryl's either. The strongest are the Girls and the Groups, it's just a pity that the people who vote in droves are teenage girls who tend to vote for some 'cute' guy with dodgy hair. Come on girls, vote for singing talent not looks and stop giving the guys an easy time and therefore making it harder for your sisters in arms! Girl Power!!!!

STACEY SOLOMON TO WIN

Posted by lise on October 05, 2009 at 09:21 PM BST #

I am shocked as is my friend that Daniel Pearce is gone in our opinion he was a real star simon you need your head read and do listen to sinnita as i think she was right in her comments but you downed them. Louis come on man this is a tanent show for singers John and Edward don't have talent cant sing. Poor Daniel Cheryl why did you do what you did you should have put him through i feel for him. Danni forget the over 25's to win Stacy your so fab just you and is brill with an amazing voice as the same for Lucie either of them to win as i think simon thinks he has it all his own way also too miss friank are very good and unique

Posted by Emer Shovlin on October 05, 2009 at 09:58 PM BST #

I think the show is going downhill. Daniel Pearce was robbed. Hopefully he'll be picked up by recording company and given the chance to shine, as he truely deserves it. Louis picked those 2 twins. Cheryl let the poor chap hang around and dealt him a massive blow with a no. There are people in the competition that shouldn't be there, but like Linda McGee, just can't help watching it!!

Posted by Ian Walsh on October 06, 2009 at 09:00 AM BST #

Fee how can you say thte groups are one of the strongest categories??! I agreed with Danni and Simons choices, i don't think Daniel P is outstanding or memorable in anyway. With Cheryls group i like Lloyd and Joe, not keen on Rikki, he just seems smarmy and had an excuse for everything - the heat was affecting his voice, i think he's gonna be a moaner. John and Edward are embarressing, i hope they don't last long there is other people with a lot more talent in the competition

Posted by bo on October 06, 2009 at 09:39 AM BST #

i think the twins could be the big surprise of the contest and win it for louis

Posted by daisy on October 06, 2009 at 09:42 AM BST #

I think Simon was right not to put tru Daniel. He already had his shot at fame. The x-factor is about find new talent, it not about resuracting washed-up former pop stars!!!!

Posted by eee on October 06, 2009 at 10:19 AM BST #

I like x facotr, but I don;t really understood why Nicole L. didin't go ahead. According to me she is and had the best perfomance in this programme. What happened? Thanks Marcos Cesar

Posted by cesar marco on October 06, 2009 at 10:41 AM BST #

Each year I just keep saying it - I am not being drawn into the x-factor for another season of saturday nights (and now sunday nights) of staying in, or not getting out til late! And here I am again, addicted already. The twins are a big joke, but I figure Louis knew that none of the other groups were going to set the competition alight either, so he might as well put them in. To be honest, everyone of the six in the three other categories could have gone through - it was and will be a strong year...and wouldn't it be nice not to have yet another female vocalist winner...so lets hear it for the boys....

Posted by Anthony McGrath on October 06, 2009 at 11:11 AM BST #

Lucie Jones to win. Simon has made a mistake with not putting Daniel in I agree with a lot on here. Danyl (a y what is that about) just annoys me. Go Lucie.

Posted by Kev on October 06, 2009 at 12:25 PM BST #

I completely agreed with Simon when he didn't put Daniel through...of course I feel sorry for him as it was a brave decision to put himself out there again...but for me his voice wasn't as good as Danyl's...I don't think he's that cocky...just loves to entertain...why do we always seem to criticise people for having confidence...should we expect people to just stand in the same spot and sing with no enthusiasm...??? Just a thought...

Posted by L on October 06, 2009 at 02:32 PM BST #

The girls in the overs category (which I think is a terrible way to refer to the 25+ contestants actually, makes them sound obsolete) were both fantastic and, even if you think that Daniel P was overrated, Nicole or Treyc should have gone through before Danyl. He's just a muppet, his crooked, gurning grin when he's singing really irritates me! Hope I don't have to put up with him for too much longer. And as for Rikki, with his silly hats in the 40 degree heat...the less I see of him the better really!

Posted by Anne-Marie on October 06, 2009 at 03:56 PM BST #

i agree with Anne-Marie about the girls in the over 25 group!Nicole was brilliant, she delivered a truly amazing performance on her last audition before the judges houses & i think she could have gone far in the final 12.Those twins from Dublin HAVE to go on Sat!

Posted by ciara on October 06, 2009 at 04:58 PM BST #

People seem to forget that this is not a singing competition. It's a competition to see who has what it takes to become a star. Looks, personality, charisma and style all have to be taken into consideration by the judges. If you can sing, great, but it takes more.

Posted by Bump on October 06, 2009 at 05:05 PM BST #

simon wuzz completely mad not to put daniel through !!!! i think he shuda kept olly outa the bunch thou .. i know danyl is way way cockii nd al that bu he is stil gud ...... ave no idea wat cheryl wuzz doin witt er tink ova !! the poor guy .. like a no wuzznt bad enough !!! happy witt er choices thou !! i cnt even think of the fact that i ave to see those twins evry week !! hopefully they'l be knocked out in the 1st week or two ... i know they're our only irish this year but in fareness i think Projct A are miles miles bettr than them !!! absolutely LUV all the gurlzz .. think any1 of them cud win !!! lookin 4wad 2 sat nite (and al the othrs 2 follow!)!! xxxxxxxxxx

Overall, I'm pretty disappointed with X-Factor this year. The whole set up is just rubbish. With regard to the judges choices, I think Cheryl and Simon messed up. For me, Simon should have chosen Trayc, Daniel P and Jamie Afro. All very different, all very good. Cheryl should have put Ethan, Duane and Lloyd in there. Danni made excellent choices and has a strong category. I pray that the twins get booted out swiftly - but would hate if they ended up in bottom 2 and were kept in by the judges!! I guess we'll have to see what happens......

Posted by C on October 07, 2009 at 12:20 PM BST #

I agree that Daniel Pearce should have been given another chance as the acts in the boys catergory apart from one or two aren't very good, I reckon Dannii might win as the girls have natural voices and they aren't showing them off either! The boys seem to be pusing themselves while the groups well, i only like one lot of them, although i can't remember the names this year. Simon was mean not to give Daniel a chance and Ethan from USA should have had a chance too, he's cute, and not a show off. Something seriously went wrong with the voting this year, only Dannii seemed to see the true potential of her acts!!

Posted by Katharine B on October 07, 2009 at 12:32 PM BST #

one of the girls from kandi rain are from dublin so if the twins are voted out there'll still be one irish person in the competition!!

Posted by bo on October 07, 2009 at 01:50 PM BST #

Dannii was the only one who picked the right ones, she defo has a winner this year. shame about daniel, i thought he would have been great, also what is with cheryl and all the attention seeking?? between jumping on stage and leaving that poor guy hanging on,it was a disgrace. poor fella prob thought she was gonna change her mind. can't wait for sat :)

Posted by celine m on October 07, 2009 at 02:36 PM BST #

The groups are very weak this year, which is a pity because I would like to see a group win the competition. Danyl is completely overrated, he did one good audition and that has managed to carry him through. I don't think he is hugely likeable because he comes across like he knows he's great. I agree that Danni made solid choices and I would love to see her win this year.

Posted by cc on October 07, 2009 at 05:30 PM BST #

I think the categories are all very strong, except the groups. Louis is very much so at a lost cause on that one!? I don't think Cheryl over did it by taking a break. He was a good singer but would he really appeal to an awful lot of people? I think Simon made the right decisions! They would have been my three, neither of the females in his group had majorly strong vocals. Love the overs !! Cheryl & Dannii's groups are great ! Can't wait for saturday :D

Nicole in the over 25s was robbed! She has a fanastic voice. I'm so disgused im refusing to watch this show

Posted by Rose on October 07, 2009 at 05:55 PM BST #

i think the x factor gets better every year.hoping a boy will win this year for a change even though i love lucie. i thought cheryl put the wrong 3 through,i like ethan and thought he had the whole package, and daniel the opera type singer and then ricky as a third.i feel joe and lloyd are too young.

Posted by olive on October 07, 2009 at 06:48 PM BST #

i think the twins could be the big surprise of the contest and win it for louis Posted by daisy on October 06, 2009 at 09:42 AM BST # Haha. Are you serious ????? Not a HOPE they will make it past week 1. Embarrassing for Ireland. Dannii made unbiased decisions and emerged with the best team. Cheryl's procrastination was painful to watch and totally unnecessary. I nearly CRIED when the gorgeous Ethan didn't get through.

Posted by Aaron Long on October 07, 2009 at 10:56 PM BST #

i think jamie afro is unreal. very talented he sings in pubs all over the place and has a bit of money to get him bye every day people who already had there chance shud not be aload to go bck in

Posted by faye on October 08, 2009 at 11:22 AM BST #

"I think Rikki will be massively popular with the right songs" are you having a laugh? He is the most annoying person ever on the show!!!STOP CRYING Rikki your in the boys category not the girls, I hope he is booted out on the first show

Posted by P on October 08, 2009 at 12:04 PM BST #

lucie jones, she has a great voice and has got the potential to go far in the music business

Posted by Stephen Williams on October 08, 2009 at 05:57 PM BST #

Stacey to win, she's such a laugh, had me in stiches when no one would answer her phone call and her reaction to kyile, mind you id be the same.=D Miss Frank is me other fav. there brillient. TEAM MINOUGE OR WALSH TO WIN!!! my favorite judges. shame we cant vote =[

Posted by Katie Mc Donald on October 08, 2009 at 08:31 PM BST #

i think daniel didnt get through cause of his hair, jamie afro has much nicer hair than him, daniel's was too punk for this pop show..i love simons hair though

Posted by alan moloney on October 09, 2009 at 10:39 AM BST #

Can I just ask everyone who says of Daniel Pearce "he really deserves it", what makes him deserve it more than anyone else other than the fact that he walked out of a band 6 years ago????

Posted by Lily on October 09, 2009 at 03:26 PM BST #

I agreed with Simon. Daniel had his chance 7 years ago and he chose to walk away from it. While I do feel for him, someone else deserves a chance to have what he gave up. At the end of the day, he made his bed and if he's worried about supporting his family then he needs to do what the rest of us do. Many of us have dreams and aspirations but will never get the chance to fulfill them. He had his shot and he passed it up.

Posted by Lily on October 09, 2009 at 03:42 PM BST #

Think Simon messed up but by putting Ollie through instead of Daniel. I love Danyl Johnson and 9m youtube hits later he's not slowing down, I think he tried too hard in Bootcamp and people dislike him for that. But talk about under pressure - having blown up that much! Wouldn't wish it on anyone. Kinda gutted that Cheryl didn't put Ethan through.... Would definitely have put him before Lloyd. And Danni needs to just focus on Lucie because the other 2 don't have a hope. As for Louis, I predict week 1 elimination for Kandy Rain, Week 2 for the annoying twins, and then probably top ten for Miss Frank but not top 5....

Posted by Grainne on October 09, 2009 at 05:14 PM BST #

disappointed Daniel and Ethan didnt make it to the live shows, i thought they both had outstanding voices and better talent than a few that got through. i love lloyd and lucie, either of them to win. not too fond of olly or ricky! and as for those twins, im embarrassed to be irish! get them OUT!

I think the winner is going to come from the over 25's. They were fantastic this weekend. I was a bit dubious of Olly getting through, but he was brilliant on Saturday. Jamie is a class act, loved his performance, and Danyl is just excellent. The comments he got Saturday night were uncalled for on national TV, even though Danni apologised!
