The X Factor - The Final Countdown

Can you believe we’re nearly at the end of another series of The X Factor?! We have our final three and I have to say I’m delighted with them. I think that the right three went through to next week’s final and I was thrilled to feel like I was making a difference this week by being able to vote - very exciting!

During my annual Christmas trip to London with the girlies (for some festive shopping and a Saw Doctors concert!), I used the opportunity to vote like crazy! Every week when Dermot says “If you don’t want to see your favourite going home you have to vote for them” I wish that I could vote so this week I ran up a huge mobile phone bill voting for Olly Murs over and over again - as I was strolling around the shops, while I was getting a cuppa and even as I was boarding the plane, for good measure! So, needless to say, I was pretty pleased when his name was called out first this week. What a relief.

Round of applause for Stacey!
For me Stacey was both brave and brilliant this week and I thought that some of the criticisms that she received were a little harsh. I agreed with Cheryl when she said that she looked hot during her first performance. I didn’t think that it was overly gimmicky and I felt that she was just trying to answer her critics, who moan about her lack of movement every week. Her vocals did suffer ever so slightly during that ‘chair walk’ but I thought she deserved praise for stepping outside of her comfort zone on semi-final week - not an easy thing to do. That said, I preferred her second performance. Her voice is so amazing that I suppose she doesn’t need any frills. Thrilled she made the final. It’s refreshing to see someone so natural in a competition like this.

No stopping Joe?
It seems that Joe McElderry is going to continue to go from strength to strength. He’s flawless most weeks and this week was no exception. Credit must go to Cheryl for two great song choices that really suited his style and vocal ability. I was a bit surprised though to hear Simon claiming that Open Arms was a song that nobody would have heard of. (Should I then hang my head in shame that I knew all the words to it?!) I would have thought that the Mariah Carey version of the track would have made it popular with new audience recently as well but what do I know? Simon is the expert!

Odds songs for Olly?
While Olly did well I thought that his song choices were odd again this week. It’s not that they weren’t both great songs but I just felt that they didn’t play to his strengths at all. He made the most of Can You Feel It? but I just wasn’t completely sold on We Can Work It Out. Sure, he got his unique dance moves in but I think that younger audience members might have been a bit lost. I’d love to see him working those dance moves to a Jason Mraz track or something else that’s a little bit funkier and more modern. Let’s hope he pulls it out of the bag next weekend.

Danyl’s last week
At this stage of the competition it’s always hard to see anyone leaving the show. You never really feel that they deserve to go after all that hard work and you’d have to admit, whether you’re a fan or not (I can see the attraction but I’m afraid I’m still not a fan) that Danyl seemed to give it his all out there every week. For me, his final song choice this week was excellent. I really liked his version of I Have Nothing. It was a risk but it seemed to work. I was with Louis on the polar bear thing though. It might have been appropriate for Heal The World but it seemed a bit over-the-top for Man in the Mirror. And, while I appreciate that Danyl really performed this song, I didn’t really like it. For me he changed it too much, losing the melody in parts, particularly at the start. Sometimes it’s nice to put your own stamp on something, sometimes though if it’s not broken…

No more sitting on the fence!!
I love it every week when Holly and Dermot try to put either the judges or celebrity guests on the spot by asking them who is going to leave or who is going to win. The amount of people who love sitting on the fence amuses me. I’d love to be diplomatic and list out all the reasons why each one of them deserves to win but it’s too hard to watch the show every week and not pick favourites! So who’s going to win? My head says Joe but my heart says Olly, Olly, Olly! Stacey is great. I love her personality. I think that her voice is amazing but I just don’t think that she’s the winner this year. Sorry Stacey. I think it’s Joe’s to lose, so I’m almost tempted to book another flight to London next weekend… just to vote for Olly Murs! Obsessed much?!

Cant believe the blogs are nearly over :( it's been brilliant Linda!! Im glad Danyl went home, he was good but he sings through his nose! Im sorry but he does!! Man in the Mirror is my favourite MJ song and he didnt do it justice at all!! I think he's a great singer but he didnt cover it well but i think it was good to see him move around the stage and get going a bit. Poor Olly...! i think simon wanted Danyl to win more than Olly but i hope Olly does well. The Climb is a hard song to sing and it will be better suited to Joe and Stacey but I hope he does well. I want Joe to win!! But i think he will be a lot like Leon Jackson and we wont hear of him after christmas! But i really think he deserves it on his vocal! He's amazing!

Am SO glad Danyl is gone-being forced every week to hear Simon call him "the best male vocalist in X Factor history" but not being able to understand a word he sang! He's good at the big power notes, but that was about it.Stacey to win!

I hope you claimed the phone bill back in expences, linda???

Dermot made my night last night when he said Danyl was going home. I agree with enna he did not do Man in the mirror any justice at all he tried to change it too much. I agree also that Simon was putting all his energies into Danyl as I remember when he picked olly all those weeks ago he said "Don't let me down" I am so thrilled with the Final three. Joe to win. I thought Dermot was going to have to interview Lady GaGa with her lying like she finished her song. Stacey was looking the best I had ever seen her all series. I can't wait to see who the duets are for the final. I don't like that the final will be over the 2 nights

I can't believe Danyl's gone! He's head and shoulders above Olly and Stacey. Joe and Danyl should have been the final two. Of course, Simon liked Danyl above Olly - he's way more talented. Watch his first audition again, when he was doing his own thing - it was brilliant! There's no competition now for Joe -he'll definately win - the contest is over.

Im with u linda, my head says joe but my heart says olly. Would be so happy if Olly wins, who knows....nothin is a given on this show, maybe stacey will shock us all and oull it off! Id prefer her to win it than joe, just to wipe that smile off cheryls face! She totally bugged me this year, and wat was she wearin last nite !! Dying to see who the duets will be, maybe George Michael with joe? Madonna is rumoured too...who knows!

Im so glad Danyls gone, I was sick of him winging every week like a little girl. His singing gave me a headache and how Simon thought he was so great just irritated me. Danyl always had a sparkle in his eye when it was Simons turn to speak about his performance even before he even said anything. I love Stacy shes great and she makes me laugh every week, I dont think she`ll though, she doesnt have that belief! Olly can to be irritating when he is jumping around the stage screaming "Come On" !! This leaves me ith Joe - what can I say he's the best singer left in the competition without doubth and although he never dances sure thats something he could learn. Hes a really nice chap to and I think Simon secretly wants him to win over Olly ;-) - Joe to win :) I couldnt belive that Dermot didnt interview Whitney Houston after her song and left her standing on stage on her own. You could see her turn round an notice all the dancers were go to an then she just ran of stage..not very nice!!!

Did anyone else notice Janet Jackson legging it from the stage last night after her performance? Did Dermot forget to interview her? Thought it was pretty bad since it was Michael Jackson night AND she was the bigger act. Seeing her actually making a run for it from the stage when she realised she was not going to be interviewed was kind of funny but mainly embarrassing. It's not like The Derm-atron at all (love holly). Olly to win!!

The public got it right this week, Danyl had to go but fair play to him for taking it so graciously. Its Joe v Olly in my opinion. I also think that a lot of it will depend on who they get to duet with them. Beyonce sang with Alex last year and it was the most talked about performance so it will be interesting to see if Joe gets the biggest star to sing with adding fuel to the conspiracy fire. I still want Olly to win though.

The standard this year really is average. I've been voting for Joe just because he's the best of a bad lot - didn't have to fly to UK to vote tho' - didn't you know you can vote from Ireland now with swift call? - it was on Gerry Ryan there a few weeks ago.

Olly has to win! Even if he doesnt win, he'll have a successful career, he's entertaining, he can sing ballads and up-tempos, he can dance!! And Ok I'm really sorry because I know Joe has 'the voice', but does he really bug anyone else??? He drives me mad!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Amy on December 07, 2009 at 12:57 PM GMT #

Last three - all annoying voices! Danyl always started every song out of tune and roared a lot of high notes but with all the publicity with his first audition he would be the most likely to make it overseas with simon's help of course. don't think the final 3 will have any kind of real success maybe joe in the theatre but that is all. sorry stacey and olly!

Did Dermot forget to talk to Janet Jackson or did they run out of time. It was sad to see her running off stage looking spooked. Sad to see Danyl go. He was THE best of them all for me.

I agree with Pollyc, Very disappointed Danyl is gone and feel worse because he was treated so bad by the judges and by the tabloids. Would of loved if he had made the final to give two fingers to all the critics and also because he deserved to be there? Olly should of gone!Really the only winner now is Joe. Stacey has no soul in her voice, really little emotional connection? a very limited performer, ok so she's sweet, it ends there for me. Olly peaked about 5 weeks ago so boring now and very ungracious when poor Lloyd finally got the boot his reaction was ridiculous, out classed by a 16 yearold. Its not that Danyl is the most amazing singer he's not Joe is better, for all the music purist out there. But I would pay to see Danyl over Joe any day and it could defintley do better as an international sat and probably still will. Danyl can perform or should I say at least tries to perform, would have loved to see Olly and Stacey perform under such fierce personal critism that Danyl put up with. Oh and before people say well Jedward were critised, Jedward are great lads and they are no fools they know they were not the best singers, that they were there on a wing and paryer, whereas Danyl has actually studied and teaches music and has invested about 10 years more time?? So Joe to win as I have to admit he is excellent! at least there is somebody in the final three with talent.

how bad is the show without john and edward just plain boring who actually cares who wins cause we wnt see any of them again. if i had to choose one it wud b olly he the only entertainging one of the finalists. simon has to let john and edward perform one lst time on the final nit eot make it interesting

i loooovvvvve joe he is easily the best out of the 3 first off stacie can i just say has an amazing voice but a popstar needs 2 be able to perform and dance like ollie but i think that for olly its becoming more a dance contest!!!! dont get me wrong i tottally agree that they are the right 3 to be in the final but overall i think Joe is the clear favourite to win!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU JOE

did anyone think lady gaga and janet jackson were shocking

Posted by Fergal Tobin on December 07, 2009 at 07:15 PM GMT #

Olly has to win if there is any justice. He has the whole package plus I have money on him!!!!He is totaly hot also...I agree with a lot of these comments Joe bugs me too and I think if he wins it will be a bit of a joke...Olly...Olly...Olly!!!!!

Posted by Audrey Mulholland on December 07, 2009 at 07:25 PM GMT #

I thought Danyl was brill on Sat night i didnt want to see him go,would have preferred to see Stacey gone.Think Joe is going to win hes an amzing voice & is sooo cute,i only hope that when he does win he WONT be like Leon Jackson & disappear after a few months!!

Posted by Ciara on December 07, 2009 at 08:10 PM GMT #

@ Fergal - I thought Lady GaGa was GREAT and I loved her outfit. Janet really paled in comparison.

Posted by Sarah on December 08, 2009 at 11:07 AM GMT #

Joe is a west end star not a pop star. Stacey has a good voice but everything else about her is not pop star quality, so that leaves olly who in my opinion has it all, he can sing, dance, he has stage presence and the looks so for me olly has 2 win. It will be interesting to see who will be top 2......im guessin joe will prob be and then 2 see who joins him there. Olly to win!

Posted by Claire on December 08, 2009 at 11:36 AM GMT #

I also thought that Lady GaGa's performance was brilliant. (Hilarious too when it looked like Dermot was going to have to interview her as she hung over the edge of the bath!)Wasn't keen on Janet Jackson's appearance though.

Posted by Linda McGee on December 08, 2009 at 04:13 PM GMT #

Olly was in bottom two a few weeks ago and is really not that good at singing - he also comes across as arrogant. Stacey also a mediocre singer and she makes me nervous every time she speaks. Don't think people liked it that Danyl was getting all the advantages: going last, getting the best song (btw - Diana Vickers' 'Man In The Mirror' was way better than his). Joe is by far the best and should win......

Posted by Brendan Cole on December 08, 2009 at 05:17 PM GMT #

People why are ye soo against Stacey ?? I think shes brilliant ! I mean she is the most genuine person in the compitition!! Come on she;s soooo funny and not to mention talented ! her voice is just class !! I really really really hope she wins ! she soo deserves it ! dont get me wrong olly and joe are great too but i think stacey deserves it more !!! Soo glad danyl is gone he was too up himself and he was bullying stacey !! C'mon people stacey to WIN !!!

Posted by Aido on December 08, 2009 at 05:18 PM GMT #

stacey to win

Posted by 192.168.26.15 on December 09, 2009 at 11:53 AM GMT #

Danyl definitley should not have gone home.I hoped that Joe would go home.I cant see what all the fuss is about him.I'm backing Olly to win now:)

Posted by Ruth on December 09, 2009 at 03:40 PM GMT #

I've almost lost my voice due to my prolonged scream of 'Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo' when Olly got through on Sunday. I didn't like Danyl's attitude but he does have a stronger voice than Olly. I really HATE him, which probably means he's going to win! But that doesn't guarantee a singing career ... remember Leon Jackson? Precisely. So, if Olly wins lets hope he slips down the same hole that Leon did, which is quite possible considering his weird 'dancing'. I don't think he's entertaining either and certainly not attractive... are you all blind? Joe is the best singer but I don't see him maintaining a pop career. Stacey is scary, I agree with Brendan, she is seriously giddy. I also agree with someone on the Xtra Factor that suggested Simon wanted Danyl to win as he could be a bigger international star, bet he will be if Simon gets behind him.

Posted by Fee on December 09, 2009 at 07:48 PM GMT #

Olly was once on deal or no deal, he only left with 10 pounds though so i think he was destined for greater things...ie...winning x factor! Olly to win!

Posted by Clara on December 10, 2009 at 09:48 AM GMT #

I was hoping that Danyl would off gone out because 3 out of my 4 best contestents (Luice Jones was the other one!!) are in the final!! I love Joe I think he is amazing!! Hopefully he will win! Stacey will be good as a recording artist hopefully she will carry on as a singer!! Olly dancy moves are really good!! Well Done!!!!

Posted by Amy on December 10, 2009 at 10:40 AM GMT #

Is anyone else thinking borrrrring duets??? Nothing will beat last year with Beyonce. Only the fact that Jedward will be back this week it would be pointless even watching it.

Posted by Mary on December 11, 2009 at 12:42 AM GMT #

i'm sad that danyl is gone & i know that cheryl cole is very happy since she's rude to him and never liked his personality at all..cheryl was so sweet when she started in x-factor but now, she's becoming a nasty and rude judge..did fame really gets into her head now????
