The Showbiz Blog - Best/Worst Comeback Ever?

When Britney met LouisIf Christianity and the WWF have taught us anything, it’s that you can’t beat a really good comeback. What, then, to make of the return of Britney?

A quick recap. Having conquered showbiz in around the year 2005, she then went a bit mad for quite a while. Now, she has allegedly ‘turned things around’, and is back with a new album (and hair).

Is she really the same old million-record a nanosecond selling Britney as before?

As everyone now knows, this very weekend she turned up on X-Factor, the self-proclaimed ‘biggest entertainment show in the UK’ and made a bit of a mess of it.

She mimed. She danced around a little bit. She didn’t really seem to know where she was or the nature of the show she was on. She failed to look all that bothered about it. Asked to give advice to the contestants by Dermot O’Leary, she said, “ummmm, keep doing ‘it’”. She looked a little unsure of what ‘it’ was exactly.

She left ‘under a cloud’.

‘Bravo!’, said the judges, who are contractually obliged to do so.

The Hoi Polloi, on the other hand, emboldened by the whole John Sergeant thing, have refused to play ball, basically reckoning she was a bit rubbish and saying so whenever and wherever possible.

Back in the game? But then. Britney was on the tellybox again barely 5 showbiz minutes later (Sky 1, Tuesday night), this time in a wonderfully sympathetic one and a half hour documentary throughout which the star quality that flickered only rather dimly on Saturday night was back to full global megastar levels.

She smiled. She cried. She danced. She did the family thing. She charmed.

So, is Britney a low-talent personality vacuum prima donna or a misunderstood America’s pop megastar who just wants to dance?

Confusing or what?

she was an absolute disgrace. So say that she is one of the biggest selling recording artits in the world her performance was a joke. She mimed and in some part of her dance routine it looked she was going it in slow motion. She wasn't even able to answer the question that she was asked by Dermot. She is simly a good production

You all saw one performance and wrote her off, watch her French performance or her Good morning America one and then make a decision. Give the poor girl a chance to get back into it. I love you Britney!!

I saw BOTH performances and the GMA was Britney at her BEST! Awesome! I'd like to see the ones being so critical do what she does especially after what she went through. OF course she will be nervous and it will take time for her to become the Britney everyone loves. Who is Gary Barlow to criticize her. Fat old and over rated he should talk. Here's the GMA performance on youtube. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ooBavfWW2s4

Whoever is producing Britneys new stuff is forcing her to mime performances. If you listen to her new album, each song is layered and mixed to death. There is no way if she sung live that she would sound anything like her cd track and people would then comment on how she has obviously lost her voice. I think she wants to sing and dance like she used to, but as usual, she is surrounded by people making the wrong decisions for her. She needs a return to the one vocal-line songs that made her a sensation in the first place.

Give the girl a chance to get back on her feet. She can't just bounce back and be fabulous after the year she has had. She needs time to find her feet again...this instance criticism is no help

Give the girl a break she was at rock bottom less than a year ago, I think this comeback is fantastic and she's now a great role model. I'm very happy for her.

Give her a chance? Please she is worth more than 100 million dollars and she has teh moeny to spend to perfect her voice and her dancing skills!!!.....YOU ARE RIGHT she can't just bounce back and be fabulous... SHE NEEDS A PROPER BREAK.. and has yet to take one...that's her problem... DISAPPEAR BRITNEY for like a couple years ... take a break get back to being you then maybe...and I can't feel all that bad for her considering she eg's the paps on ... and loves it... Has she ruined her comeback? I think she's has!.. and who cares if she mimes... her whole career has been ...MIMING and being OVER PRODUCED...so if yo ujsut found that out... welcome to reality!!! It's called the BRITNEY BRAND and to be honest...she wasn't BRAND BRITNEY on X Factor or Good Morning America!!!

Can we all just leave her alone for a bit and give the girl a chance? What do the people want from her? She is the most hounded of people out there and doesnt get a minutes peace from the tabloids who just want a peace of her...

Britney was not rubbish on X Factor at all. She has been through a lot and I think she deserves a bit of slack. Other celebrities go through worse and they get ignored. She has been my favourite artist since I was a kid and she still is amazing!

Guys, I don't think anyone is being that harsh....people are so used to judging X-Factor performances, it maybe isn't such a good idea to go on it if you're a big artist with a lot to lose? (and refuse to sing).
