The Clinic - Episode Six
More questions than answers… As we near the end of the current series (four episodes to go), 'The Clinic' is getting more interesting. Dan has roughed up Niall Boylan and, you'd think, gotten that out of his system, so where will his energies be directed next? I've seen no scripts, but I'm thinking Daisy. Dan, it must be remembered, has form. Jettisoned by Lisa in favour of the far-more-sensible, are-you-looking-at-my-woman? type Seán, I can see Ruairí and Grace getting closer. As for Liam, his suspension and Cara's rush out to the door to say something suggests there could be a thaw around his heart before too long. Ok, maybe I'll be right on one of the three, but I'm convinced there'll be more tangled webs - and tears - in Clarence Street.
Speaking of Liam, he was on the receiving end of some of the clunkiest scenes in the history of 'The Clinic' last night. The blurry camerawork to show him being strung out on prescription medication was totally unnecessary and came across like a 1980s TV ad for headache tablets. And what about when he left the office after being suspended? Is it credible that no-one would say anything to him in reception, and would look at him like it was some slo-mo 1980s TV ad for being without insurance or having some embarrassing illness? 'The Clinic' is way better than that.
There was a lot of backstabbing going on in this week's episode. Alice was only too happy to shop Liam, despite knowing what he was going through, while he was willing to let Grace take the rap for nearly killing the nicest old lady in TV history (no protests about losing a medical card there - she'd probably say 'thank you'). Liam's conscience triumphed, but I think Alice is going to cause a lot of trouble before this season is out. I'm expecting some kind of power struggle - maybe even a catfight!
And have you ever heard the saying "There are two tragedies in this life: not getting what you want, and getting what you want"? I think it's going to have a real relevance to the characters in 'The Clinic' before the end of this season.
