The Apprentice Blog - The Wrong Girl

On the two previous occasions that I've written this blog I've managed to put the kiss of death on the two people I tipped to go a long way. At the risk of jinxing anyone else, this time I'm going to keep quiet. Oh, alright then - I really think Debra is going to win.

Keeping quiet was ultimately Mona's undoing, although I can't see how someone who is really good at sales, diplomatic and not straining under the weight of their own greatness wouldn't be an asset to the Sugar empire.

We all know people who are only assertive in situations where they feel comfortable and I think the past two weeks have shown that with Mona: brilliant when she had to close the deals with the retailers but in the background when the territory was new to her and Debra was running the show - or not, if you know what I mean.

How someone can have the best idea to work with and the three people with the least ego issues on her team and still manage to muck it up and get away with it in the boardroom is truly galling. The force of Debra's personality prevents people from performing at their peak and her desire to always have the last word or the upper hand will only ever yield limited success. Whereas confidence can be nurtured, arrogance is very hard to unlearn.

Watching this week's show, I felt like I was mentally stuck in a seaside town for a wet weekend. There weren't too many laughs and the feeling of doom around the project and despair about human nature made the hour a slog.

That's my ray of sunshine for this week.

Next week, the contestants are going to a Baby Fair. You just know that some of the most childish behaviour won't be emanating from the prams.

Comments:

Deborah definitely should have been fired last night - she completely dismisses everything the members of her team have to say. She even shot down Howard when he put himself forward as team manager, and offered him a sub-manager position instead. Fair enough if she was a good PO - but she's rubbish! Kate for the title!

I would hate for Deborah to be my boss. Poor Howard, he would have done a much better job as he is good for taking other people's opinions on board. What they should do next week is put Deb forward again for PM and work against her to get fired. It would have to be done in a clever way, so as not to hve Sr Alan round on them. Although i can she her there till the end!

Horsey Kate for the title no way! It will be one of the guys. Great episode last night Margaret and Nick are very funny!

Is anyone else shocked at how much Howard got away with last night? He was part of the subteam that made those awful posters. His pitch was rubbish and he didn't come up with the gay theme, just the rubbish suggestive posters. Yet they were singing his praises on 'You're fired'. Very strange.I think he must be in the final two,Mona's glowing praise wasmy big clue .

I don't understand why everybody has such issues with Lorraine! I mean Yes she's not overly pleasant to look at and she is slightly annoying but she is one of the few, if only contestant that doesn't backbite or become a turncoat in the Boardroom. I think she has handled herself with dignity throughout the show, and if I'd faced the torrent of abuse or disrespect that she's had to put up with, I would have been reduced to a ball of snivelling snot and tears in front the millions of viewers!!!!

Yes clare, I agree with you about Lorraine. She has handled herself well. I think the others need to show her some more respect and take her opinions on board. If people listened to her instead of putting her down things would be better.

I agree basically with your comments about Lorraine. However, she's got a really unfortunate way of presenting herself. She needs to be a bit more charming and a lot less negative. Stop whining Lorraine! We know you can do it!
