Strictly Come Dancing - Done goody but done!

So week two down and it’s Richard Dunwoody who got the boot. I must say even though he was a rubbish dancer he came across really well and worked very hard and it is unfortunate to see the great Lilia go so early. It was probably the right choice on the night although Craig was nothing to write home about! He references to dancing being like toffee - nice but hard - appear to be true in his case and I can’t see him lasting too long.

Clearly Jo was the worst dancer of the week but I am so glad she is staying at least for a while longer. The woman is fabulous! She looks amazing and has hung out with a rock band for most of her life but apparently has no rhythm! It’s hard to say which dance was worse but I think her Tango probably pipped it. Her head turns were feeble while in the Rumba she looked as if she was being dragged across the floor. She clearly has won over hard-to-please Brendan who had a right go at Craig for his comments about her. Tess's jaw dropped when the hot-tempered Kiwi described the judge as an idiot in the Green Room after their dance. Expect further fireworks to come!

Craig has come out all guns blazing this series and has been in top form with his comments and like or loathe him the judging panel would be a lot duller without him. Speaking of judges, Alesha did well over the weekend and seemed a little more relaxed and confident with her comments and her pairing with Bruno is working well. Give it another few weeks and I reckon we will hear no more about this subject. Brucie should also give it a rest with the pro-Alesha comments which were more than a little over the top on Friday night. Cringe! Generally he is annoying me and they really need to cut down on his gag time as I am tiring of hearing the sympathy giggles from the audience.

What this weekend proved more than anything else is that Ricky Whittle is the one to beat. He is an amazing natural dancer and has been paired with the very talented Australian dancer, Natalie Lowe. Great chemistry, great choreography and natural ability – injury looks to be the only thing that could prevent him from getting to the final at this point! Zoe Lucker dancing with James Jordan also impressed while I was a little disappointed with Laila Rouass & Anton du Beke. A good dancer but can she become a great dancer? Let’s hope Anton can drag himself away from ‘Hole In The Wall’ long enough to get her there!

Finally a word about Natalie Cassidy – a shaky start but the girl’s got rhythm and she really is the one I would like to see excel! You go Sonya!

Comments:

I'm really disappointed with Anton. I've always adored him and been very keen to dance the quickstep with him. This season he's annoyed me. While he was OK on Friday, I found that his showboating didn't help Laila at all on Saturday. He was almost behaving like she wasn't there and that it was all about him. This isn't helped by the studio audience giving him a bigger round of applause than her (and she's supposed to be the 'celeb'). Maybe it's all true and he is after Bruce's job. Either way, he didn't behave like the gent I thought he was. Loving the show though. I live in Mayo and believe me, I need sparkle in my life!

The standard of Latin dancing was quite poor on Saturday except for James Jordan and Zoe Lucker and Ricky Whittle & Natalie Lowe> However I am still in shock at the exit of Matthew Cutler and Martina Hingis the previous week as together they jelled much better than Rav and his partner.

I have to agree with Jane with Anton. He knows how popular he is and thinks is the celebrity. I think if she becomes more confident she could be in with a chance. I have to say I couldn't warm to Natalie Cassidy. She just seemed like her life depended on staying in Strictly, I found it more desperate than endearing. The biggest surprise for me was Zoe Lucker and James, he definitely can be hit or miss with a partner but they seem to work well together. Looking forward to next week!

Jane & Bill thanks for the comments - let's hope Anton was having an off night. As for Mayo Jane I'm from there myself and I consider it sparkle-tastic!!

Thanks Bree but you should see it today! Lovely as it is, there's plenty of blue and green and brown but not a lot of gold and purple glitter... although obviously it should be encouraged! Ceci I agree. Laila should be in with a chance but she needs the confidence and she should be relying on Anton for that. He should be making her look good. To be fair, I think he only failed in the latin. Wasn't the pro's quickstep amazing?

It's great to see the pro's getting so many opportunities to dance themselves this year. A bit more of them and a bit less of Bruce and Tess and the show would be so much more watchable!! Not sure if the Anton/Laila problem lies with her or him to be honest - I just can't warm to her at all. Jade is another one I won't miss. Go Jo - didn't think I'd like her but I love her and Brendan together!

Totally agree Lorraine, I love the show but I do find that I'd rather fast forward through Bruce and Tess. I too was really surprised at Jo and Brendan. They were delightful and I found myself willing her to do well. I can see why the public saved them. I thought Richard and Lilia made a cute couple and although I really like Flavia, I think she and Craig should have gone. I loved that way Richard didn't stop smiling at Lilia all the way through their latin. It was like, if they lost eye contact, he would fall over!

I saw Brendan and Jo on ITT last night with the fabulous Claude. He is totally charmed by her as the public are too. It is great that a woman who is not really in the public eye but was married to an ageing rock star (nuff said there) can get such a positive reaction from the audience. She is the star of the show at the moment eventhough she can't dance!
