Strictly Come Dancing - A Worthy Winner

What a fantastic result on Saturday night? I am thrilled Chris won it. Yup I know Ricky was a better dancer and during the show I tried to talk myself around to the idea of him winning and being worthy winner. But do you know what he just never floated my boat and that didn’t change on Saturday. I think I would have preferred to see Ali and Brian performing (by the way they have finally admitted to being a couple – what is it with Strictly and all the off-screen romance?).

Natalie’s pieces to camera really annoyed me on Saturday. You would swear she had never won a competition in her life with her appeals for the win. She has won the Aussie version of the show several times so I wasn’t really buying it. To their credit they gave four fabulous performances, very slick and skilful but it was just lacking something every time.

Chris and Ola on the other hand brought something completely different to the dancefloor – and that was heart! For me their Charleston was their best dance of the night although they clearly danced the other pair off the floor during the side by side Lindehop – not as slick to be sure but full of personality. Finally the judges did the decent thing with the Charleston and threw a few tens their way.

I sense that the public in voting for Team Cola were voting for the pair of them and not just Chris. Ola (Mrs Jordan) has emerged as an absolute star during this series. Her hunger for the win was far more intense that Chris’s. I suspect the man may have feared for the consequences if they did not take home the glitterball on Saturday. A tirade in that mixed-up Polish/English accent followed by a session of nipple-tweaking no doubt. Eek! She played a stormer with her choreography and I loved their showdance which had a little of everything and who knew Chris would be able to juggle Olachops like that?

Chris went back to work this morning apparently and that just sums up why the audience love him so much - an under-the-radar journalist with a famous dad who just happens to have a secret talent for entertaining and is not afraid to slip into bright pink Lycra. I wonder how long they will keep him in the BBC Sport Dept?

All in all two great shows this weekend! No major stars to steal top-billing but let’s face it they were not needed. Rachel Stevens reminded us just what a fantastic dancer she is and more than kept her own with the pro-dancers. Lisa Snowden however did not look match-ready! It was nice to see Jade and Ian back but despite comments to the contrary she would not have made the final.

I enjoyed Bruce and Alesha’s vocal stylings and let’s hope she sticks around next year as she definitely brought some glamour to the proceedings. I see Arlene is having a dig at Alesha today in The Sun saying she is no Cheryl Cole! She’s right, she isn’t because Alesha can actually sing unlike Cheryl. Sour grapes anyone?

Just a suggestion for Bruno, who called Chris a ‘cheeky frantic monkey’ at one stage on Saturday (not to mention his remarks about riding - say no more!). He was on top form this weekend but wouldn’t it be great to see some of that nervous energy he constantly fails to keep in check used up on the dancefloor next year. Get him out there and let him show us how it's done. He clearly wants to!

A great series yet again with a very worthy champion – what am I going to watch on Saturday nights in the New Year?

Aw, I'm so happy that Chris & Ola won, they were indeed so worthy! I know Ricky was the best dancer but there was always an undertone of arrogance in both him and Natalie, even though they tried their best to be humble. Anyway Chris & Ola's chemistry was just so cute and made me smile alot! You could tell that they really got on with each other. I din't actually get to see the shows on Saturday (but they have been taped), so I will have a Strictly evening this week watching the semis and the final all together. I hadn't even heard who had won until I tuned into BBC this morning and caught the end of Chris's sports section and he had brought the glitterball in with him to show his fellow presenters! I was thrilled! I am so disappointed that it's over but will be looking forward to the special on Christmas day.

I couldn't believe it when I saw that Chris and Ola had won!! I was delighted. Thought that Ricky might have just sneaked in, though I didn't want him to. Did anyone else think that Ricky and Natalie's showdance was just lifts the whole way through and not much dancing? When it was over I thought "is that it?". Chris & Ola's was just "them". Delighted for them!!

It was FAN-TAS-TIC! I loved it, chris and ola made the series for me this year. They were great, they had me wanting to join in! Their showdance stunned me, who knew he had it in him! Ricky might have done better without Natalie I could not warm to either of them and I think it was more her than him. What the hell am I going to do now its over..... Oh wait christmas day special!!! Yahoo! thanks for the blog Bree really enjoyed it. Keep DANCING! :)

I was also delighted Chris & Ola won, their charleston and show dance were amazing. Ricky & Natalie's show dance was just brilliant lifts but there was no personality. I definitely think Ricky would have done better with someone other than Natalie - for some reason she kept coming across as false. I also agree that Rachel Stevens was brill - Lisa was nowhere near as good as her. Rachel & Vincent were my favourites last year. I can't wait until Christmas Day now!

I only saw the first section, not the results and there's no doubt about it, the show was fantastic. Am thrilled for Team Cola, though I think Ola needs to put some clothes on. The fact is no matter how good Ali and Ricky are, popularity counts. If you have the wrong attitude (not that Ali does, she is a fantastic role model), the public will see through you. I do love seeing a novice dancer improve week by week, rather than being consistently good, otherwise it gets boring. Am surpised at Arlene's comments about Alesha. Who wants to be Cheryl Cole, Alesha Dixon isn't constantly in the papers moaning her tough life and man problems and she is a true professional at all times. Go girl! Bring her back next year. Although Darcy is an outstanding dancer, I'm not sure if she added anything to the show. Think it's time Tess left, she's so wooden. Thought the standard was a lot lower this season though than usual. Zoe should have been in it a lot longer as she would have brought so much more to it and Leila should have been a lot better, as she had potential. But I did adore Ricky Groves and his determination to learn to dance. Fair dues, Ricky! Hope the BBC can afford another great show in 2010. Get budgeting now for it.

Urgh, the Gurning Hobbit won! Yes, it would have been far preferable for Ali and Brian to have been in the final against Ricky and Natalie because both those couples actually dance, as opposed to flail, gurn and pivot. Cutesy team names and catchphrases won out over actual talent.

Am loving the description of poor Chris!

Wasnt a big fan of Natalie but found Ola as bad, way too competitive for my liking.

Guess it was always a forgone conclusion that Chris was going to win. Even the programme rules were changed to favour them. Can anybody tell me when did 'The Charleston' become a Latin dance? Was it when Chris and Ola did it well? It allowed the judges to give then a full house and make the scores close. If they had to perform a real Latin dance they probably would have been at least ten to fifteen points behind. This is probably my last time watching SCD. Up to now the winner had to be a decent enough dancer. Clearly that's no longer the case.

Chris and Ola epitomised what "Strictly" is all about. Their personalities and determination made this series the most entertaining by far. For those who are suffering withdrawal symptoms now that it is over, draw some comfort that you can see the professionals strut their stuff when they appear in the O2 in May.

It was a fantastic result. I had been really worried that Ricky and Natalie might overshadow them but they really stepped up and their showdance was fantastic - didn't know Chris had those lifts in him!! I totally agree that R and N's dance was just about lifts - really boring. Definitely the right result. Fergus, unfortunately the show in the O2 is sold out - I didn't hear about it till it was too late :-(. For everyone droning on about a dance competition - get over it - it's about entertainment as well. I'm sure there are plenty of serious, less joyful shows out there for you to watch. If you can't get the audience to warm to you and aren't making them smile every single week, then you're not going to win. Ricky showed no actual improvement through the series, just stayed on the same level throughout.
