Big Brother - Not exactly thrilling viewing!
So I did me some Big Brother watching again last night! Does this mean I am getting addicted? Well I wouldn’t say that exactly as I am still strictly in the watching-this-for-work mode. Thankfully though it doesn’t fill me with the dread it once did. So what happened? Well not very much actually - there was some chanting and some rowing and that was about it.
Adios Halfwit and Dogface
Thankfully Big Brother has finally released Freddie, Sofie and Noirín from their first week commitments which saw then gain full household status. I always thought renaming two of the contestants as Halfwit and Dogface was a real sign of desperation on the part of the producers. The only word to describe it was degrading and I am pleased to see they have come to their senses. The ‘gift of normality’ which Big Brother gave to Freddie on his birthday also means that Noirin no longer has to draw on her face which no doubt will be a relief to her.
So what else did Freddie get for his birthday?
In return for dressing in hippie clothes all day and leading a freeform performance, Freddie was offered the spectacular inducement of an organic carrot cake and two shopping tokens. He seemed ridiculously pleased at the prospect and I must say I felt sorry to him as his enthusiasm was unlikely to be matched by anybody else’s. In fairness they mostly did throw themselves into it but it hardly made for exciting watching.
Sree v Marcus
Okay I think we are all agreed that Sree is a total annoyance but Marcus didn’t exactly bathe himself in glory last night with their daft argument about arguing. Once you start swearing and saying things like ‘You’re nothing!’ it’s time to back off. Marcus should have taken the lead from the hippie task and found his happy place. The jury is out on him at the moment. Even Karly (who is really growing on me although I can only understand every second word she says) defended Sree and was critical of Marcus last night. He may have some bridges to build before nominations.
Naked pool antics
So we were subjected to some late night high jinks in the pool for Freddie’s birthday and this seems to have inspired Angel to take up a new hobby – nude swimming. I have just one piece of advice for her – Don’t do it!! Maybe I am missing something but I just cannot seem to warm to her. I wonder if her pool antics will put her in the firing line when nominations are announced.
All in all a fairly dull episode and I can't help but feel that something is missing. Maybe it's the laughs and perhaps they should scout around for a new housemate to inject some humour!
