More drama off the dancefloor
You go away on holiday for a week and all hell breaks loose on a nice uncomplicated Saturday evening dance show. From the corner of my eye in Majorca last week I saw tabloid headlines about Anton so much so that I was forced to buy them to get all the news. The word idiot springs to mind and what was Bruce thinking of weighing in and making matters worse? How I missed Claudia’s nightly updates!
Anton has been a favourite of mine on the show for years but I must admit he has been getting on my nerves this season. Clearly the BBC have been grooming him to take over from Brucie and maybe he has lost the run of himself a little bit. I am reminded of the character of Doug Hastings in the Baz Luhrmann classic ‘Strictly Ballroom’ whom Federation President Barry Fyfe described as a genius on the dance-floor but who had to give it up as he became a selfish dancer, obsessed with his own greatness! Throttle it back Tony or the Beeb may not have you back next year! That Hole in the Wall could easily become the back door.
So to Saturday night’s show - well I was sorry to see Lynda go but the judges got it right when they said she played it safe. That aside she still was still streets ahead of Jo and Joe but every year some of the weaker dancers find support from the audience and get to stick around for a while. John Sergeant anyone? I am sure Craig will be feeling vulnerable next week as I think Jo and Joe have a few weeks left in them yet.
So it looks like the girls from Footballers’ Wives and the Hollyoaks gang are the top four at the moment with the two former Eastenders stars likely to be in the mix as well as the BBC sportsguy! Of the rest Craig, Tuffers, Jade and the Joes are likely to go over the next five weeks.
I am still not a fan of Jade’s and what were the BBC costume department thinking of last week when they poured Ian into that dodgy outfit. Even he was complaining about VBL - eek!! Her performance this week just looked too chaotic and she didn’t seem in control – fast she may be but she just seemed to be all arms and legs (not a bad thing for a hurdler probably).
The interlude entertainment this week didn’t exactly have me jumping to my feet. Amy Winehouse was not at her best but her Goddaughter, Dionne Broomfield, is a star in the making. And for once I was not overly impressed with the pro dancers’ performance. The tap routine with the guest performers was unspectacular.
This week lets hope the BBC Press Office get a break from dealing with Strictly dramas and we can all focus on the dancing!
