Lost 'The Little Prince' - Episode Four
Well I felt it was time to give Taragh a short break from writing on Lost and I must admit I approach this task with some trepidation for two reasons. Firstly although I have been watching and loving Lost since the very first episode, I really haven’t a clue what’s going on and secondly judging by your comments each week you guys do!
Anyway here we go and please be kind!
First up, I enjoyed this episode the least of the new series and I think it was my own fault. Last week I did a little Lost surfing and found out that Jin was alive and was rescued by Danielle Rousseau circa 1988. Each episode needs those ‘oh my gawd’ moments and I just ruined last night’s. Note to self, resist the temptation this week!
Plot development?
So what did we learn last night? Not that much I reckon apart from the fact that Ben Linus is the one freaking Kate out over Aaron’s parentage. We should have guessed that one. Generally on Lost if you are wondering who is behind a dastardly deed it is either Ben Linus or Charles Widmore and let's face it Ben has been a little quiet since the start of season five.
Finally all this time travel has created a situation where one of the gang has witnessed a scene from their own time on the island and limited though Josh Holloway’s acting range is (he has a permanent angry/confused expression on his face) it does make you long for Kate’s return and the resulting drama that having her, Sawyer, Jack and Juliet sharing scenes will create.
And it is beginning to look like that is not too far away as the rescued six come together in Los Angeles albeit with Sun intending to kill Ben. No doubt he is aware that Jin is still alive and as soon as he informs her, that will end that particular plot line.
Don’t the makers of Lost just love sending us down blind alleys like last night with the appearance of Claire’s mother? They manage to fill fifty minutes of television but in the end many of these scenes are completely expendable.
Before moving on to the exciting topic of nosebleeds just a note about Kate and Aaron. Looking again at the scene where Aaron was born it reminds you of just how uninterested Kate was in the baby in the first few seasons. If anything it was Sun and Charlie who helped Claire with him. Now being a parent to Aaron is apparently the driving force behind Kate’s character which makes me wonder if the programme makers had always intended it to be so. They keep telling us the plot was mapped out from the beginning but I have my doubts!
Nosebleeds
Is Daniel Faraday holding back or despite his experiments is he totally clueless about time travel? He has had ample time to let the group know what is happening to Charlotte and the rest of them but all he can manage is ‘it may have something to do with the length of time people have spent on the island'. How did he come up with that one and does he mean people who are supposedly new to the island (Charlotte and Miles) or there for longer (Juliet)?
That technique so often employed of preventing characters from giving key information by always moving events on at a breakneck speed is wearing a little thin.
Up next
Well no more sneak previews for me. I much prefer not knowing what to expect but I do hope that next week we see more of Desmond and Penny. I also would like more of Sayid and Hurley - the coolest and funniest characters in that order. Let us know what your thoughts on last night's show were.
