Lost 'Because you left' - Episode One , 'The Lie' - Episode Two, Season 5

After months of being lost without it I feared being lost with it but not so. Less then two hours and two episodes later, JJ Abrams had us back on the familiar unfamiliar island and amongst former friends.

Season Four ended with the clanger of Locke's unexpected funeral, leaving us once again asking how on earth 'Lost' creators were going to explain their way out of that one. However as usual they have, whilst answering that riddle, they've given us plenty of new fodder to chew over.

If you too enjoy analysing every detail of the show you may wonder why Daniel Faraday dragged the stressed out beach posse back to the hatch. He said he was searching for a manmade object so that they could use it to navigate their way through the island's ever-shifting time-zones. The camp was man-made and it could have fulfilled the same purpose without hauling the bedraggled crew on a needless jaunt. However Sawyer was on the ball when he used his subtle investigative skills to work out that Faraday was pulling the wool over their eyes. Although I don’t know what the semi-clad Sawyer was complaining about, he got the chance to give a mega plug for his annual calendar, after-shave or any other product he fancies promoting.

Desmond was right on cue to ensure the scientist's ulterior motive to phone home was carried out. Destination Oxford next Sunday night?

Rumours about Ana-Lucia aka Michelle Rodriguez return were proved correct last night as well. Given her own real-life brushes with the law, the irony wasn't lost on her dishing the sound police advice to Hurley. Will his refusal to heed her prove to be his downfall? Time will tell.

What is it with Ben? The series would be a lot duller without him yet he is dangerously annoying. I'm still not sure whether he's playing the part so brilliantly that you never know whether he's fighting for the forces of good or evil or whether he's just a very creepy actor. Any thoughts?

Also Sun has grown into the strong, independent woman that she was suppressing during her early island days. The question is whether her moral compass is still pointed towards good or if revenge has morphed her into an ice queen?

Sayid played a stormer being dragged around á la 'Weekend at Bernies' and Cheech Marin seemed to enjoy all the toing and froing despite the fact that he never did get to eat that brunch.

Next week's 'Jughead' episode will no doubt follow Desmond and Penny en route to the UK and Kate, Aaron, Jack, Sayid, Ben, Sun and Hurley preparing to head back to the island. What is Ben planning? Is Jin still alive? Where is Claire? Will the island let Locke be reborn? Here's to being lost in 'Lost' once more.

This was a really poor opening eposide....Nothing was really learnt and there was way to much happening.

Slightly underwhelmed by the return of LOST, and worried that it may well develop into a caricature of itself, what with Daniel Farraday running around the island finishing each scene with Dynasty-type close-ups as he says something inane about time travel. I suspect his mother is Fionnuala Flannagan, pictured at the end. Which also means that Ben can "jump" from Stateside to Oxford...

Was delighted to have it back. I love the way the pieces are coming together and the way objects/characters from seasons past have popped up (Mrs. Hawking and the compass given to Locke by Alpert in Cabin Fever), brilliant stuff.

Re; Ed Flynn. Yeah, it wasn't a crazy, chasy, shouting opening episode but to try and get all that mental stuff about time travel across they had to take it handy which i think worked very well. Really looking froward to Sunday night where Des will track down Finnoula Flanagan who has to be Daniel's mother and Locke will catch the WWII lads who were shoting flaming arrows, maybe. You must have a bit of gossip Taragh?

I guarantee you there will be no possible ending for Lost that answers everything or brings a finale to the story. The writers put in so many ridiculous twists and complete u-turns that they've just dug themselves a hole they can't get out of.

I'm guessing Locke isn't actually dead, but full of that poison spider venom that paralyzed Nikki+Paulo, and that's what Ben had hidden in the air vent. Also in the same episode, Hurley's dad was watching an episode of 'Expose' (the show Nikki was in). Coincidence, or a gentle reminder/hint? And what about that seemingly innocuous scene in the jungle with Sawyer and Juliet where he stood on something and it went through his foot? The 'Lost' writers don't do 'innocuous' scenes, so let's extrapolate that somewhere along the line Sawyer's foot gets infected, then amputated, leaving him with 4 toes. Then, somewhere along a time-line, Sawyer does something heroic or the like, and the natives build a statue in his honour! Sound crazy? You betcha! But it's 'Lost', so all bets are out the window! Namaste, AL

Uugh. You know a show has jumped the shark when time travel becomes a major plot line. Lost is an absolute mess. The writing is convoluted, and the show seems utterly rudderless. Compared to the likes of 'Batltlestar Galactica' or 'The Wire', Lost feels like a waste of time. Pity.
