Lost '316' - Episode 6
They're back.
Opening just as the first ever episode of 'Lost' did, this week's '316' landed Jack right back where he started from. Sky gazing, momentarily lost, it wasn't long before the former hero was back doing what he does best and saving lives. First Hurley and then Kate and perhaps he'll have to do the same for Sayid, Sun and Ben (have a feeling we need him to stick around).
Where's Your Mama Gone?
Where is Aaron now and what did Kate do with him? I think she may have left him with Claire's mum but that doesn't explain how traumatised she looked. In fact she looked more scared than traumatised. What could possibly have made her give Aaron up and return to the island and does it have anything to do with Ben's injuries? Perhaps she wants to find out if Claire is still alive (rumour has it that she'll return for Seasons Six and Seven) and return her safely to her mother and son.
Joyce
Talking Ben, funny how no one on board asked about his injuries. It's as if they a) are used to seeing him in that state and b) know he did something to deserve a them. Why would Ben buy Joyce's 'Ulysses' to read on board, what he knows is going to be a short flight? Muppet.
Lost Locke
Was Locke's 'suicide note' a love or hate filled one? Perhaps he meant that Jack could have saved himself a lot of pain and drug use if
he'd listened to him and stayed on the island. However Jack is taking it to mean that Locke killed himself because of his lack of faith. Just as Mrs. Hawking believes the island isn't finished with Desmond, I think there's more in store for Locke too, thereby negating Jack's need to mourn?
Credit Crunch
The familiar time travel flash of light could have saved the producers a fortune. The two part original pilot focused on the very expensive, and time consuming, crash landing of Oceanic flight 815.The flashes have wiped out the need to splurge.
Narnia
I don't know why I didn't see it before or perhaps I did and forgot to mention it. There are enormous correlations between 'Lost' and CS Lewis' 'The Chronicles of Narnia'. Magical lands, time travel, mysterious occurrences, characters and now the 'Lamp post'. In Narnia the protagonists always start out from the lamp post and in 'Lost', Mrs. Hawking referred to her pocket of electro magnetic energy as the Dharma Initiative's 'Lamp Post'.
Leap of Faith
Have to say, it's pretty cool having our own eyes and ears in 'Lost' land with Fionnuala Flanagan. Her Oxford accent may slip into an Irish one but that aside, she is perfect for the role as mother of all time travel. She'll also ensure we think twice before
underestimating the local church secretary. When Jack asked if Ben was telling the truth she astutely responded: "Probably not!" However her most important line of the night, which could be a direct message from JJ Abrams, was: "Stop thinking of how ridiculous this all is and ask yourself how it's going to work. That’s why it's called a leap of faith." Then Ben drove the message home with his Doubting Thomas pep-talk.
We probably could have done without the repeat of the opening sequence at the end, seeing as it was all we saw of the island this week but that's a small complaint in what was essentially a great episode.
Observations
The US army are sure to be back in the future as their 1954 postcard in the Lamp Post hinted.
Looking back to the beginning of this season, when Sawyer and co robbed the kayaks they were filled with Algira water bottles. Me thinks that Jack and his posse could have unwittingly been shooting after Sawyer and his.
It's no surprise that the dude Hurley is a comic book fan but his latest airport read 'The Last Man' was an interesting title.
Queries
Is that it with the 'Lost' numbers 4 8 15 16 23 42 or will we need them again? Was Sayid in cuffs accompanied by a guard of the opposite sex, fate's (or Ben's) attempts to recreate Kate's circumstances on the original flight? Could the island turn out to be a living
organism which explains the fact that it's always moving? Hurley brought what appears to be one of Charlie's guitars back to the island – is it possible that the hobbit hero will be brought back to life?
