Grey's Anatomy - Elevator Love Letter

So we finally got a proposal from Derek but fittingly (after so much drama surrounding it) he was upstaged by Hunt's freak-out/murder attempt on Cristina. What do you expect if you spend months on end talking about proposing and never actually get round to doing the deed?

The proposal... finally Derek takes a hint!
The most annoying couple in the world? I think so!So after Meredith basically telling Derek how she wanted him to propose, the conditions of the engagement, what he had to do to prove himself to her and how she could only respect him if he was a brilliant surgeon… Derek finally got the hint, pulled himself together and popped the question in unspectacular fashion. How unromantic was that whole x-rays in the lift thing? Yeah, it was right up Meredith's whiney, unconventional street but it just lacked sparkle or any kind of impulse?

Watch out Cristina
I really felt for poor Cristina this week as she tried her best to stick by Hunt, in spite of his dark side. You could see how much she wanted to be there for him but it was just so sad when she had to give in and admit that she was scared to go asleep because of his violent side. I think she's done pretty well in supporting him so far. Sure, he has a certain bad-boy charm about him but he's also pretty insensitive by times. But the fact that he was willing to let Derek help him just goes to show how much Cristina means to him. We might still get the happy-ever-after there.

Izzie's battle begins
Alex's heart is breaking... and it's heartbreaking to watch. After facing up to her condition last week, Izzie's battle really commenced this week as she prepared for her surgery, feeling really alone because none of her friends could face seeing her lying in the hospital bed. I'm glad for Bailey. Who else can tell people off the way she does and get away with it? I loved her little "Do better tomorrow" speech and how chuffed she was when Izzie told her that the scarf was for her.

Is it the end of the road for poor Izzie? As well as having sympathy for Izzie in all of this, you'd have to feel a bit sorry for poor Alex too. He's trying his best to do the right thing (he stuck up for the interns who were concerned about Izzie, he didn't hesitate when asked if he would consider having children with Izzie and he's trying to hold it together for her) but he's crumbling inside because he realises that all the stuff that he was excited about over the last few weeks just won't be as much fun if Izzie isn't there to share it with him. Cue tears… honestly, I'm turning into such a blubbering wreck watching the show these days. It's just so sad. You want Izzie to pull through but at the back of your mind you're thinking of those stories about Katherine Heigl leaving the show and you're left feeling a little pessimistic about her scenario again.

So good to have you back with the reviews Linda, the others were just a little too negative for my liking!! I loved it this week and I was crying my eyes out at the end. I lved the proposal. I think it was very cute and inspired! and the chief! he was so funny standing in front of her. Poor Izzie and Alex, you think as soon as they get a break. and you so want Izzie to live, Maybe the stories about leaving was a bit of a publicity stunt to get ratings?? I dunno...i hope so anyway!

Izzie will get better and decide she doesn't want to be a surgeon, and leave, and george will follow her

I'm not saying I'd be pleased if a prospective fiance proposed to me in a lift surrounded by x-rays but for Derek and Meredith it was so perfect and really romantic IMO, given everything. However, I totally agree with you about Meredith really only wanting Derek when he's the big hero surgeon. Ugh bloody Meredith.

I love alex carev, Justin Chambers is finally getting to wrap his chops around a storyline and show us what hes made of, yes there were glints of his acting prowess with the ava storyline in season 4 but surprisingly its the shark jumping grasping at straws for the sake of a cameo by jeffery dean morgan cancer story that is edging Karevs character ahead the rest of his fellow actors. By the looks of things himself and G.I ginge are gona steal the show in the lead up to the season finale, no more superficial bad boy antics chambers is gettin his feet wet. Really starting to get excited about hte season finale!! great blog by the way.

I dont tink that Meridith would only marry him for the surgeon aspect, she said he had a gift and she couldnt live with someone who gave up on it. That didnt mean, IMO, that she was marrying him cuz he's a surgeon, it's because he was at the end of the barrell and she didnt want him to give up. She wouldnt allow herself be the reason he went back and operated on Izzie, she wanted him to believe in himself, that he could do it. G.I. Ginge..Claire...that is brilliant!

Thanks for the comments. I know what you mean about the proposal being fitting so I'll give Derek that... I'd say he could do with any breaks he can get now! ;) Yeah, the Chief is great for the comedy these days. Himself and Miranda are what keep it giggle-worthy in spite of all the sad storylines. Very true about Justin Chambers too. He's on top form at the minute. Alex is brilliant character when he's likeable... and in love. The old Alex was sometimes hard to feel sorry for. He seemed to bring all the misfortune on himself. Now he's not quite Mr Nice Guy but he's kinda edgy nice guy. It suits him. Until next week...

It was the perfect proposal for Meredith. Great acting by Patrick Dempsey throughout the series. Finally a wedding :) Love MerDer :)

Let's not forget the main character in the show is Meredith not Izzie. Meredith isn't whiney and moany.
