Desperate Housewives - The Best Thing That Ever Could Have Happened
Last night's episode of 'Desperate Housewives' was an unusual one. I like the flashback technique because it feels a bit like we're filling in the blanks in the housewives' pasts, some things pretty obvious but others just hilarious little additions to the story (like Edie and her very-obviously gay husband).
This charming man
Eli Scruggs, played brilliantly by guest-star Beau Bridges, was one of the most likeable characters that we've seen on Wisteria Lane in a while. He wasn't just a handyman who always had a shoulder to cry (an essential quality if you're going to be doing Susan's locks) but he was also a straight-talker when called upon (telling Gaby to wise up, setting Edie straight and reminding all of the ladies what they are good at).
Maybe it's the weepy girl in me but I found last night's episode quite sad in parts. I felt a little bit emotional watching Mary-Alice make one of her final decisions and seeing Lynette realise that she had her priorities all wrong. As for Eli, wouldn't it be great if he lived next door to you? Not only would you never have to put up with leaky taps but you'd also have someone to listen to all your problems and dish out pretty decent advice.
Changing opinions
With every revelation about the Wisteria ladies my opinions on them seems to change and I'm getting pretty worried that I'm liking Edie more and more since I got a bit of an insight into why she is the way she is. Instead of seeing her as brash and annoying I now see her as a bit of survivor and it's hard to hate her now… dangerous territory.
I'm glad that I also got to recap on the old Lynette because I was finding her a little stressed-out and moany these days so it was nice to go back to the good old days when she was gutsy but insecure and seemed to learn by making plenty of mistakes. It made her seem more like the rest of us, which I think was always her charm.
