Desperate Housewives - Rose's Turn
This was an odd little episode of Desperate Housewives. After building up drama surrounding Dave in previous weeks, it now feels a little like the momentum has been lost and the show is trying a little bit too hard to keep our attention and in the process coming off as ridiculous.
Where did it all go wrong?
For me the show has too many silly little substories these days. Sure, one or two of these are entertaining, when thrown in for good measure every now and then, but there's no central drama anymore, not like the mystery of the first series. The Dave saga has been dragging on a while now but there's no real mystery about it. I find it hard to care about his next move, mostly because lots of stories seem to be dropped for several weeks and then picked up again. It's the same with the Orson thing. Am I bothered? Not so much.
I feel a wife swap coming on!
Next there's the weird storyline where Tom and Gaby are becoming very close, which, in itself, could have been interesting, but coupled with the Carlos and Lynette scenario just seems ridiculous. Wife swap, anyone? It's a classic example of a good idea taken too far. The Gaby and Tom storyline could have been very believable. They are both stuck at home while their partners work awful hours (together), they are struggling with parenting and in need of some adult company. You could see how they might fall into each other's arms but, as usual, the idea has just been taken too far and with all the bells and whistles we can barely make out what's supposed to be happening in suburbia!
Susan's big mouth
What we love most about Susan Mayer is her verbal diarrhoea – that absolute inability to keep anything to herself or to show any tact. But this time she might have dug her own grave. Dave has been plotting revenge on Mike for years but now Susan has just informed him that it was all her fault – clever, I know. So what, will Dave do next? He's mean but would Dave draw a line at harming MJ, an innocent child, just like his own daughter?
Line of the night:
This must go to Carlos for "Why does the lamb taste like sawdust?"
The Why Moments:
• Why did Katherine just keep driving when she saw Susan being pinned to the ground by a cop. Eh, nice friend you've got there Susan.
• Why doesn't Susan ever have to be at work at a certain time, no matter where she works? She strolls around, says she's going into work, but never seems to actually get there. Nice work if you can get it!
