Desperate Housewives - Connect, Connect!
This week the Wisteria wives all battled for a sort of happy-ever-after of their own, some trying to break free, some desperate to win back a loved one's trust and some not really sure why they wanted what they thought they wanted.
The fun is in the conflict
What did we learn from all the resolutions this week? Well, that conflict is far more entertaining to watch. As much as we wanted Lynette to get Porter back and Susan to admit that she didn't want to move away with Jackson, most of us were probably disappointed by how dismal the dramas played out before finding soppy resolutions. We feel for the characters' when they are faced with dilemmas, empathise them and will them on but in the end we prefer watching their misery than their triumphs.
Could we feel any more sorry for Edie?
Was Edie telling the truth last night or did she spin Susan a story just for the laugh? (even Edie couldn't be that sinister, could she?). I bought it and it made me feel even more sorry for Edie, like she almost had a right to treat people the way she does. As much as you want to hate her, you just can't help respecting her sharp edge when she looks at Susan in disgust and throws out a line like: "Eugh, you're not crying, are you Mayer?".
Gaby and Carlos… Heading for Disaster
Only a week back at work and already the cracks are starting to appear for Gaby and Carlos. From the outside it's all too obvious. She's too greedy. She wants the good life back and she thinks that she's earned it after caring for Carlos since he lost his sight. But he resents his job and her for making him take it so it's never going to end happily, is it? Those children are brilliant at playing sulky and cheeky though. I want to see more from them.
Lynette needs a big storyline
Although the Porter issue has been hanging around for a few weeks now, it seems like Lynette has sunk into the background a bit after previously having huge storylines (like her cancer battle and her war with Tom's ex). I'd love to see her getting something meaty to sink her teeth into again (maybe another war with her mother after the reconciliation, maybe a falling-out with one of the other ladies on the lane), because I think Felicity Huffman is a great actress to watch. She really makes her characters believable.
What next for Dave?
After being thrown a lifeline by Edie (big mistake), Dave is going to be feeling he's back in favour with the Wisteria Lane gang, which is a dangerous place to be. At least if he was an outsider again they might be wary of him but now they're all targets again. I'm hoping his next move will be a revealing one.
