Celebrity Big Brother - And they're off!
Well we know that Big Brother has at least one superfan left on the planet and that is Davina McCall. She could barely contain her excitement last night as she read out her roll-call of has-beens, wannabes and ex-boyfriends of Katie Price. Relax woman!
I thought they might pull out all the stops for the final run of Celebrity Big Brother but it was not to be. Instead they have dragged in the usual suspects – a glamour model (whom I have never heard of), an ex-boyband singer, an actor with one decent movie under his belt and a famous older brother, an MC with a ridiculous name which has to be explained to the group and a former brothel keeper who now runs a launderette.
For me Stephanie Beacham and Vinnie Jones are the biggest names in there but perhaps that’s my age talking. Sisqo (apparently his real name is Mark) performed his Thong Song on the way in to remind us who he is while DJ Basshunter borrowed his dad’s tux complete with a cummerbund to make his entrance. The group of eleven is rounded out by two of the most pointless people on the planet in my opinion – Alex Reid famous for being dumped live on TV and fighting in a cage and Katia Ivanova who dated former Rolling Stone, Ronnie Wood.
Judging by the reaction of the live audience I am not the only one irritated by this pair and it will be interesting to see if they can win a few fans while in the house.
If the audience were confused by all the strange faces they weren’t the only ones as the ‘celebrities’ themselves didn’t seem to have a clue, for the most part, who the other people are. Apart of course that is from the pair who fell into the category of Katie Price’s exes. And of course there was an awkward moment when Heidi Fleiss said to Stephen Baldwin ‘I’ve seen you before’. Was the born-again Christian having flashbacks to his hell-raising days? They really should brief the celebrities before they go in just to avoid that whole ‘who the heck are you conversation?’ Stephanie looked particularly befuddled by the succession of people coming through the door.
From first impressions I reckon Vinnie would seem to be the obvious early front-runner for the title. Jonas, aka Basshunter, also made a great entrance and could be one to watch.
We’ve got three weeks of this so let’s hope Davina’s head doesn’t explode with excitement and we can endure the late 10pm start times.
