Pants For The Memories Kim!
The Apprentice’s Rough Tough Cream Puff Kimberly Davies was really setting herself up for a fall last night when she said at the beginning of the show ‘this is the task I have been waiting for’. So many of the contestants seem to hit a speed-bump when working on a task in their own discipline and Kim proved to be no exception.
Sralan got it right when he said it was the idea that was wrong. Absolute garage, he said, a total piece of rubbish, basically a pants concept to use pants to sell food!
Kim, nice as she was, did herself no favours with her excuses. She explained ‘I’m not creative myself, I manage creativity’. In response to questions about why she did not do the pitch herself, she said she was not completely comfortable in front of an audience. So here we have a marketing executive who lacks creativity and is not a confident public speaker – perhaps she should consider a career change.
Phil ‘The Talker’ Taylor once again did lots of talking! Sralan advised him in the boardroom that he should shut his mouth and I hope he takes that advice. You have to concede that at least he tried on the task but the way he turned on Kim in the boardroom was not pleasant. Despite this I think he will be around until near the end of the run.
Lorraine (what’s going on with that accent) Tighe finally stuck her head above the parapet this week but may be ducking for cover again after Sralan’s putdowns. She will have to work hard next week to shake off the title of the awkward, negative one. On the ‘You’re Fired’ show last night comic Jenny Eclair likened her to one of the Dementors from the Harry Potter books literally sucking the life and happiness out of a room.
Chocolate teapots of the week: Talk about a team of two halves – there were in fact three other people on the losing team last night – Mona, Howard and my mate Noorul. Mona surfaced just long enough to have me reaching for the remote to avoid her pitch which was awful, Noorul sat in a shed dressed as Pants Man while Howard just about featured in the advert. Perhaps I misjudged Noorul and he is secretly a business genius just waiting for his moment to launch himself onto an unsuspecting world – after all he is still in it!!
The One to Beat: Clearly Kate is now the one to beat and she was soaked in praise last night from her own team and indeed the normally reserved Margaret. She even managed to tame Ben who contented himself with impersonating Ian Paisley while dressed as a parrot last night. Let’s hope this doesn’t become a one-horse race!
One to watch: I have a growing fondness for James who, despite his inability to string a sentence together, is making good suggestions and seems savvy. I reckon he is due to be PM again soon so here's hoping he doesn't make a hash of it.
Quote of the week: "They took logic and tortured it until it screamed." Nick never lets us down!
