MW2 - The Wait Is Over!

Well the moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived and in a year when many of the marquee games have been let downs (Wolfenstein, ODST), how are things looking for MW2?

Like everyone else I only have the videos and various interviews with Infinity Ward heads to go on. From what I’ve seen, the game looks stunning and it seems there will be at least one set piece to rival the nuke scene on COD 4 and hopefully the single player will last longer than its predecessor.

Which brings me neatly to the main reason that most people will be buying MW2 - online play and the kick you get from riling Americans who trash talk but don’t have the goods to back it up? Infinity Ward has been listening to players, it had a twitter site that let gamers put suggestions forward for what they wanted to see in MW2. I would have preferred to have a respawn immunity for about 5 seconds to stop the occasional spawn killers while others have put forward suggestions for multi-parts for weapons i.e. red dot sight with a silencer. Most of the suggestions have been very good and reasoned.

Of course all of this will broaden the appeal to a wider audience but there is also the danger of it becoming too populist. For example I’m not convinced by the awarding of points for every single thing going. But on the other hand I think the balancing out of the game by introducing a death streak bonus (it’s the opposite to a kill streak, if you die 3 times in a row without getting a kill you get some assistance e.g you can copy the kit of the last person who killed you) will help a lot of people get to grips with the game.

Then there’s the new kill streaks which again I’m not too convinced by, one of the most fun things to do was to kill your enemy when he was one kill short of a helicopter or an airstrike. Again Infinity Ward have attempted to balance things by not letting kills from your killstreak weapons to count towards getting the next weapon in the streak.

For me, the things I will be looking forward to most will be the more customisation of loadouts, the throwing knife and the AC-130 gunship.

What are your hopes for MW2 and what aspects are you looking forward to most?

Can't wait for MW2. Has the potential to be the best game ever and the online play should be second to none. I have purposely stayed away from the trailers etc. so that I won't have any expectations for the game. Hope they sort out some of the online glitches like some sniper shots don't register and point blank range shotgun not resulting in a kill. MW1 was the best online game by far though. Matchmaking was quick and troublefree (unlike FIFA 10's terrible system) and the gameplay was quick and hectic (unlike boring GoW 2). Any other Xbox MW2 fans want to add me my gamertag is 'sinlessgunner'. On a side note, bought Dragon Age Origins on Friday, graphics and animations are not exactly GoW or Assassins Creed but if you are an RPG fan buy this game!

MW2 should be a lot of fun, but it will be impossible to meet the massive expectations set for it. What people will see is a more balanced multiplayer experience, with some new features. By all accounts, the single player experience is almost too crazy and over the top. What we can all look forward to, however, is many more months of shooting dudes in the face. Bring it on.

Ordered teh prestige Edition from HMV. Read that a lot of folk have received theres from HMV. Just wish mine would get here. Don't think that there is gonna be a vast improvement on the online gaming. I could be wrong. I just wanna roll about the house in the dark with my night vision goggles. lol

This will probably be awesome, more so because of what has been added as well as what stays. However, I'm not going to get any of the other editions. And also, this is not necessarily the best game this year.

Anybody else get a pain that during the summer there were bugger all great (even good) games during released. Now in the last 5 weeks a planned for the next few, we will be spoiled. I got Uncharted 2 (amazing) Brutal Legend (great fun), will get Dragon Age and MW2. GT5 will be out sooon too.....have to stagger these purchases as otherwise they will get neglected - D'oh! Also on a side you should try Scribblenaughts on the DS if you have one. Most original game in years!

Tis pretty good. Haven't touched the single player campaign yet, but the multiplayer is wicked. The sounds are much better, the graphics are a solid improvement, the guns feel better, shoot better and sound better. The equipment, perks, attachments etc. are all pretty brill, and it's challenging to unlock them and rank up. BUT; It feels far too much like COD4. And the MP has the same bugs... like where your game and the enemy game don't sync up properly - you could have dived around a corner into cover, and when you were clearly in cover at your own end, and seen the bullets miss you, it can appear different on the enemy's kill cam. And you die. It's only a slight lag, but I'm sure a lot of you noticed it when you were putting in the hours in COD4. And the MP really feels like a tweaked & polished version of COD4 with bigger and better maps. I don't think the underlying engine has changed much at all. Which makes it feel like a rip-off, but I still have yet to play the Campaign & Spec Ops, so I'll reserve judgement until tomorrow.

Played this for a few hours last night and what a game. Right from the off it's guns blazing. Every battle is against masses of enemies and there's a very authentic feel to the guns etc. Far too much to say in this little box, just buy the game :) Veteran mode is going to be the bane of my life....

Got it yesterday and played it for good few hours last night. It's more of the same but its just really polished now. Only played the first 3/4 missions but was loving it. Took it online and had a ball, its like cod4 on steroids. Everything is pumped up and its much more hectic. Gonna be lotsa late nights spent on this bad boy. I'll add you Aaron, anymore Irish xbox live people feel free to add my GT= PistachioInsane

Amazing game, keeps the adrenaline pumped right up. Weapons feel and sound perfect. I'm in the process of finishing the single player campaign which I think is going to be very, very short but you do have the 20+ Special Ops missions and of course multiplayer. I have to say the airport level is quite disturbing but you do get a choice not to play it. Personally I think everyone should as it'll make you think twice. Congrats again to Infinity Ward!

Mad chuffed I rocked 27 kills in a game last night and got MVP along with the accolade for wiping out the entire enemy team without dying! This of course was contrasted with a few games where I got 12/14 kills, but amazing nonetheless. It's a lotta fun... Just unlocked the Thermal Scope. Spec Ops is a helluva lotta fun too.
