Charlie Bird joined RTÉ in 1974 as a researcher in Current Affairs before entering the newsroom as a reporter six years later. He is now RTÉ’s Chief News Correspondent and was recently chosen to succeed Robert Shortt as Washington Correspondent, a post he will take up in January.
