Forget the cold outside - or the New Year's resolutions that have already fallen by the wayside. It might not seem like it, but spring is just around the corner and with it brings a whole host of fresh looks for 2010. Some of us may think that we are bang on trend by wearing skin tight leggings and shoulder pads - but in the topsy turvy world of fashion they're old news already.

Take a look at our gallery of the hottest trends of 2010.

On the bright side, it isn't snowing. On the downside, it's hardly the weather to be considering baring your legs, or pondering turquoise as a wardrobe choice. This hasn't stopped the stores from filling up with delicious new spring fashion, though - so unless you want to miss out, we'd suggest closing your eyes, transporting yourself to a balmy beach and fantasising about what you might conceivably want to wear come springtime.

So what are the hottest new looks for the coming season?
Here's a round of the trends you'll be salivating over during the coming months...

UNDERWEAR AS OUTERWEAR

Is your underwear too pretty to be kept under wraps? Well this season it doesn't have to stay hidden, as bra tops, corsetry detailing and tiny shorts (or are they big pants, who can say?) become outerwear. With sales of pointy bras soaring at La Stenza and Nineties-style bodies flying off the shelves at Marks & Spencer this trend looks set to stay. On the Marc Jacobs catwalk in New York, blue satin bras were worn over shirts and lingerie slips were seen at Alexander Wang, Christian Dior, John Galliano, Preen and Sportmax.

PRINTS
Floral and ethnic prints are going be huge next season and many stores such as River Island will be stocking gorgeous prints with a distinctively retro feel.
Sarah Walter, director of fashion communications, says: "River Island presents a collection laced with attitude for Womenswear SS10; blends of Seventies Ibiza, Eighties soft power dressing, military authority and a reminder of Woodstock. Print is key this summer, from ethnic designs to ditsy florals. Nautical details feature everywhere, from sailor hats to a simple red, white and blue colour palette."

PUFF SHOULDERS
Y'know the Dynasty inspired power shoulder that's everywhere this season? Don't get too used to it: next season it will be replaced by the puff. Just as exaggerated as its pointy counterpart, the puff is more Olive Oyl than Alexis Carrington, evoking a cuter, less power-crazy feel.

STATEMENT TROUSERS
Farewell, sweet skinnys. If anything can sound the death knell for these perennial favourites, it is the statement trouser. For spring 2010, trousers are loose and very, very loud. Harlequin prints, bold florals and sequins are the next big thing.

BANDEAU TOPS
Rubber ones! Eek! These were part of a big sportswear trend that included jogging bottoms, neoprene jackets, cycle shorts and hoodies. Ideally, wear your bandeau peeping from underneath a loose, mannish jacket. Fair play if you decide to pass on this one, though.

WHITE
At last, a trend that's easily adapted into even the most conservative of wardrobes. This being spring, and London Fashion Week's 25th anniversary being a cause for optimism, clean, fresh white was all over the catwalk, and very refreshing it looked, too.

BLAZERS
And look, here's another easy one. However avant-garde the collection, there still tended to be a blazer involved: after all, they're far more likely to sell than a rubber bandeau top. The best ones stole from classic men's tailoring but were scaled down to fit the female form.

PLEATS AND RUFFLES
Knife-pleats, sunray pleats and Fortuny pleats ... all will be big next spring. Banish notions of your dreary sixthform games skirt: the new pleats are sculptural and sophisticated, and herald an end to the girly frills that have been prevalent for so long. Charlotte Pettican, buying director for Dorothy Perkins, says: "We've gone all girly for the new season, and embraced ruffles, frills and romantic fabrics such as lace, broderie anglaise and delicate pearl trims to create a truly feminine look."

FRINGING
Yee-ha! Although the new fringing is less Wild West than Mae West: think silky, sexy and in delectably bright colours. Fringing adorned skirts, swung off shoulders and draped around tops, adding texture and movement.

SPORTS REFERENCES
Good news for anyone in a post-Christmas slough of dishevelment. The official uniform of January, namely tracksuit trousers, has been elevated to high-fashion statement. Alexander Wang worked the varsity look with grey gym knickers and sheer silk tracksuit trousers, Gucci reinterpreted extreme sports details while Prada's more minimal take on the theme featured cycling shorts in techno fabrics.

TURQUOISE
Trend prediction agency, Pantone, announced 2010 will be the year for turquoise. Expect the cool blue tone to pop up everywhere from chic little jackets to your next evening dress.

DIY FASHION
Vivienne Westwood, Bernhard Willhelm, Sonia Rykiel and Emma Bell have all embraced homespun themes on the catwalks, using quilting, and crocheting, hand-knitting and customised clothing. Westwood urged people to turn their tea towels into clothing and we have seen a surge of 'DIYed' clothing. Topshop is expected to pick up on this trend for summer.

INDOOR LEATHERS
It has reached that point again on fashion's fickle merry-go-round when leather is borrowed from the backs of bikers and whipped out from the depths of the dungeon. No more leather boots and jackets - think soft leather tops, dresses, shorts, skirts and jumpsuits. It started with Alexander Wang and Bottega Veneta in 2008 and for S/S 10 was at Celine, Balenciaga, Balmain and Paul & Joe. The cut of indoor shapes are kept simple to complement the butter-soft texture and light weight of the hides.

NOSTALGIC BLING

Bling is getting romantic and sparkle is all about heirlooms. A jacket by John Galliano for S/S 2010 was adorned with vintage brooches complete with their antique shop tags. Jo No Fui, Moschino, Dolce & Gabbana used military medals, crosses and coins. Tradition is invoked through pieces reminiscent of mayors' chains.

THE ACCESSORIES

CLEAR LUCITE ACCESSORIES - Wear the chunky, transparent pieces on your wrists and neck, or pick up a shoe with a see-through heel. They may have a bit of a peep-show vibe, but that's why they're so fun!

WHIMSICAL PRINTS - They popped up on the platform heels at Miu Miu and on the clogs at No. 6. It's the perfect touch of humour that we're pumped about seeing more of.

LOWER HEELS - Though we're sad to see them go, it may be time to give up your vertiginous heels. Flats, mini platforms and, alas, even kitten heels may strike footwear gold this year.

CAT EYE SUNGLASSES - Retire those Raybans! Retro-riffic cat-eye specs are blogger favourites and offer a new spin on those big shades that we all love to hide behind.

CLOGS - Rachel Comey, Louis Vuitton and Chanel all sent the backless shoe down the runway and though the cousin-of-the-Croc made us wonder, they definitely reveal a rustic charm we're feeling for the New Year.

PATENT AND VELVET - From ladylike bags to lace-up shoes, expect to see accessories popping up in super-shiny and matte materials.
