Whatever about capturing the mood of the times with the deadpan opening lyric "It feels great, the world is caving in", Myp et Jeep's sound is a far more retro proposition.

That, however, is a compliment and the Kilkenny quartet's take on the US rock sound of the early to mid-1990s is more memorable than plenty of the outfits from back in the day.

During the standout moments on their debut (the title track, 'Papercuts'), they show a talent for mixing harmonies and heaviness, while the strings on 'Please Remain Calm' prove their ambitions aren't limited to just a mastery of power chords.

A good job, with hopefully even better to come.
