Beggars Banquet - 2004 - 43 minutes
The joy of hearing Mark Lanegan cackle and whoop on a record... A man who put himself through the ringer, only to come out the other side, sounding better than ever. 'Bubblegum' is his most rocking solo work to date, with a guest list that will make you read the liner notes at least twice.
Continuing on from the raw feel of last year's 'Here Comes That Weird Chill' EP, Lanegan is joined by, among others, PJ Harvey, Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme, Guns 'n' Roses survivors Izzy Stradlin and Duff McKagan and Masters of Reality mainman Chris Goss.
There isn't one makeshift track, but it's the duets with Goss on 'One Hundred Days' and Harvey on 'Come to Me' that tower above all. There's something here for everyone, from the metallers to the maudlin, and while 'Bubblegum' sticks, it's never sweet.
