Timbaland is the man who saved pop. When R'n'B was drowning in R Kelly-inspired syrup he introduced jungle beats and Asian vibes, flooding the charts with stunning singles from Missy Elliott, Justin Timberlake, Aaliyah and Destiny's Child in the process.
'Get Your Freak On' might well turn out to be the apex of Tim Moseley's career, but the bluegrass hip-hop of Bubba Sparxxx and Justin Timberlake's epic 'Cry Me A River' show that he's still a few steps ahead of the industry.
'Under Construction Part II' is Timbaland's third solo album, and sees him reunited with his schoolfriend rapper Magoo from 'Welcome To Our World', the duo's decidedly mixed debut album.
It might not be his strongest release, but that ole Timbo magic is still sprinkled here and there. The Eastern themes of 'Indian Flute' and 'Naughty Eye' sound fresh and 'Naughty Eye II' (why is everything a sequel?) is a hard ragga number that should rock dancefloors.
Weirdness is Timbaland's secret weapon, those looped helium-screams on 'Kold Cutz' or the rhythmic cawing crows show that Moseley make commercial tunes out of sounds he found down the back of the studio sofa.
'Under Construction II' has the usual impressive roster of guests (Missy Elliot, Bubba Sparxx and Wyclef) but doesn't sound like the finished article, more like the work in progress suggested by the title. Keep an ear out for 'Indian Flute' though, it'll be huge.
