At the ripe old age of 56, Rod Stewart is still going on stage and squawking the unforgettable lines "If you want my body and you think I'm sexy/Come on, sugar, let me know". Maybe he's gone beyond that song now but, back in the seventies when he was all tousled blond hair and figure-hugging white t-shirt (á la the back cover of this album), Mr Stewart bestrode the world in his tight blue jeans with hits like 'Maggie May', 'This Old Heart Of Mine' and his interpretation of 'I Don't Want To Talk About It'.
A man who has abused his talent too many times to be taken seriously, Stewart has long since been relegated to the status of housewives favourite. This double album is divided into the self-explanatory A Night Out (including up-beat rocker 'Baby Jane', the unredeemed macho of 'Hot Legs' and 'It Takes Two' duet with fellow dinosaur Tina Turner) and A Night In, showcasing Stewart's balladic side on songs like 'Sailing', 'All for Love' and 'Ruby Tuesday'.
If the Stewart strut is what you're looking for, it's here in spades on 'The Story So Far'. Otherwise, avoid like the plague.
