Lovesick – 2001 – 37 minutes
As the post rock universe becomes ever more like a never ending episode of 'Stars in their Eyes' ("Tonight Matthew, we'll be Tortoise"), it's a joy to find a backroom outfit who bring soul and warmth to their instrumental workouts.
Enter Nicholas Tse and Jonathan Ford, a Chicago-based guitarist and bassist who should have more established acts looking nervously over their amps.
There are playful, big-eyed forces at work on their debut - from the chimes which snuggle between the electrics on 'The House of Hopes...' to the slide guitars on 'Golden Cities' and the ambient backdrop on 'Ruby's Wishes'.
Best of all is the closing track 'The Quiet Hour', where Ford opens his mouth and sighs the sweetest goodbye you're likely to hear from any young man. Uplifting and intelligent, 'The Faithful Anchor' is the start of something very special. Come sail your ships.
