Epitaph - 2001

For most of their teenage years, California girl quartet The Donnas (Donnas A, C, F and R) have ripped out four-minute nuggets of pop pucker and outshone any three chords or double entendres that the boys could ever come up with. Now, with a style and sass straight from a decade they're too young to remember, they can ditch the fake id's and have even more (legal) fun on what could be their breakthrough album. And while the sepia toned cover photo and neon lettering suggest that they've ditched the guitars in favour of some private booth at Studio 54, in their hearts and amps they're still AC/DC with lipgloss, turning heads, raising hell. With men on their mind, this is a scheme now, sin later, trawl through bars, gigs and the dalliances in between. There's even a cover of Judas Priest's 'Living After Midnight' - something you imagine they'll be doing even more of now. Mothers, lock up your sons.
