No surprises here - indomitable Dublin mammy Agnes Brown has triumphed over talking apes and over-sexed college boys in a new round-up of Irish box office hits.

Mrs Brown's Boys: D'Movie made more money in Irish cinemas this year than its nearest rivals Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and The Inbetweeners 2 according to a new list from the Irish Film Board.

D'Movie took a total of €3,801,785 and new releases this year are unlikely to overtake its earnings. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes had takings of €2,430,804 and The Inbetweeners 2 racked up ticket sales of €1,677,32.

22 Jump Street also performed strongly this year but Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Tom Cruise's sci-fi actioner Edge of Tomorrow did not fair so well.

It was also a big year for animation with two or three animated films appearing in the top 10 movies every week this year.
