Alexander Skarsgard has opened up about the finale of True Blood, which was shown last night in the US.

"It was the saddest moment of my career, for sure," he said.

"I was ready to move on creatively," the Swedish actor told E! News. "I thought it was time, so I was sort of prepared for it, but I cried like a baby, “

He recalled shooting his final scenes as vampire Eric Northman on the HBO series.“ It was so sad. The last couple of weeks leading up to my final scenes that I shot were extremely emotional. I'm already missing it."

Based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries series of books by author Charlaine Harris, True Blood ran for seven seasons.

Skarsgård is currently shooting a Tarzan movie with Margot Robbie and Samuel L. Jackson.
