Events are being held this weekend in the New York town of Woodstock where the iconic festival was held 45 years ago.

The activities have included a "Hippie Thanksgiving" which took place on Thursday night at a restaurant in the town of Bethel. On Friday night, there was showing of the Academy Award-winning Woodstock documentary on the field where the three-day music festival took place.

Approximately 400,000 people gathered on Max Yasgur's Sullivan County farm from August 15 to 17, 1969, to hear The Who, The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and a host of lesser-known acts.
